Assuming you have someone to help lift the cover off the bed, or some other good way to lift it off, it's really not too bad. Remove a few bolts for the mounting points. If you wire up the tail light, remember to unplug the cable. Then lift it off as one piece. Probably 10 or 15 minutes max.
I'm still waiting for mine. Did your come with the crossbars? You mentioned you're planning to put a RTT. Let me know how it works out. I also plan to install a RTT and want to know what it would look like.I received and installed the cap this past weekend on my 23 T. Placed the order in March.
Overall, an excellent value and product. The box was delivered via a local carrier and was very beat up. I was concerned about damage, but after opening, all of the parts were nicely wrapped. A few things needed to be bent into position, but nothing major.
This took a few hours to put together and the instructions are useless. It was pretty easy as there are only a few pieces, but took a while to bolt them together. We sealed all of the inside and outside seams right away. The sealant is a black rubber compound. Wear gloves. Plenty of hardware, but not enough bolts were provided. A quick trip to ACE was the fix.
I did a 70 mile highway test drive. No rattling or extra noise. I did not notice a range hit at all - in fact it appeared a bit better. We are planning on going camping and mounting an RRT on it. Will report back after.
