i Bought my r1s 3 months ago and have been loving it until now. My rear lift gate is having an issue when the weather warmed up in Oregon and I opened the lift gate it made a loud pop noise and the trim on the top of the hatch hit the top of the vehicle and ripped the trim on the top of the hatch. I took it in for service and they are ordering a new lift gate. Sent me home for 3 weeks until they get one. Now I can’t drive it on the hwy as the panel is starting to flap and I am afraid it will tear off. Has anyone had anything like this happen? Will they give me a loaner until they can repair?

Sometimes you get a loaner if it will be a longer repair, usually you get an Uber credit.

I have never heard of that exact problem, but I can see how it might happen if there was an error in assembly.

There have been similar reported problems in the past with, for example, the driver's door rubbing against the front left quarter panel when opening or closing. Both these things are a result of poor panel alignment when assembling.

Rivian will repair it under warranty.
Yes, they will give you a Rivian loaner or a rental car while yours is in the shop. The availability of loaners is limited, but they will always have rentals.

You might want to call the service center and ask them if you can drop off the vehicle now. Tell them you want a loaner, and you will drop it off when they have a loaner available. I think if you work with them they will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. It's a cost-benefit tradeoff, so mention that you're concerned there might be additional damage caused by operating the vehicle on the highway in its current state, which will require additional (warranty) work. They will probably agree with you.

I noticed the popping on mine as temperatures increased in the first summer of ownership. The tailgate hinges were adjusted under warranty and has been good for 2 years.
Sorry for your situation.
Have you asked about a warranty claim?

I believe that if the repair takes 48 hours or more you get a loaner. Otherwise, it's Uber credits. At least that was the case at the Tualatin SC when I had service done there a few months ago.

If they ordered a new tail gate just put some duct tape across the seam. Probably will be a pain if you need to open it but if you can leave it closed you should be able to drive around waiting for the repair.
