Rivian has zero experience with megacasting so I'm waiting until they find the microcracks from tens of thousands of miles of use across tens of thousands of vehicles and develop a second gen cast for larger parts.
Because you think Rivian is going to make the same mistakes as Tesla?

PS when I learned R2 wouldn't have the light interior, or the much-hyped RAP1 and LiDAR...
Let's be clear - when the R2 was announced in March 2024, there was absolutely no talk of lidar or a custom chip. None. These were never promised for the R2 launch. Ever.

In December 2025 Rivian hosted autonomy day where they announced these two things were in development. But they specifically said they would NOT be in the initial version of the R2.

So it's a little disingenuous to claim you bought something else after you "learned" the R2 wasn't going to have these features at launch. The R2 is launching on time, as promised, with the launch trim that was promised. If you bought something else it was because of YOU, not because Rivian failed to deliver as promised (they didn't).

Didn’t know I hurt your feelings by cancelling.

Rivian has reliability issues with the R1. The R2 is too early to tell. Same reason I would be very hesitant to buy an EX60 because of the EX90
Rivian has reliability issues.....

they should only be so lucky. they are likely to make new, and more, mistakes like they do with their audio systems, suspensions and app/server connections.

But that’s not surprising, Rivian is subscale. Same reason they can’t start to solve self-driving for many more years.

I don’t blame them, but they should be held accountable like any OEM.

hate to break it to you, but new information always comes out between the reveal and production for every manufacturer. And consumers use that new information to make purchase decisions. No one is required to hold onto a three year old mindset, it’s illogical.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
PS when I learned R2 wouldn't have the light interior, or the much-hyped RAP1 and LiDAR, until much later I picked up a CPO Audi e-tron GT instead.
Just in case you didn’t know, the light interior will be available in August (about 6 weeks away).

The RAP1+LiDar will be a longer wait (up to 6 months away), but the current R2 Launch Edition can already do universal hands free driving and will do point-to-point next year. It won’t be able to do Level 3 autonomy, but who knows how long that will take Rivian to achieve? Tesla has been working on it for over a decade.

The Audi e-tron only has advanced cruise control and parking assist, so maybe autonomy wasn’t that big of a deal for you after all. It’s your money though and if you needed a vehicle right away you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. They were always saying what a crazy deal a used e-tron is on the Batteries Included podcast due to depreciation. Enjoy!✌

When R2 was announced, the Fed EV tax credit was going strong. A launch edition starting at $50,490 would be incredibly enticing, just saying!

went for a different purpose, they are not like to like.

For point to point, I’ve got over 1,000 miles on FSD on my Cybertruck since 14.2 and it works very, very well. Not sure I believe Rivian will get to point to point on vehicles without LiDAR so went for something with better feel and handling in the etron GT for the time being. Will see where the Gen 3 R2 ends up!

Yeah, that would have been amazing! I was hoping that the R3 Standard came out before the tax credit expired, but now it’s completely gone. 😢

I’m still hopeful that things will turn around in the next few years and maybe they come up with something again. It’s happened in other countries, so why not ours? The US needs to be a leader in the future of transportation, not just follower.

Still have my reservation. Will most likely cancel eventually. I needed the tax credit and the 45K model. To be fair, now that I know the trims, I would love a launch edition. The lowest trim I would get now would be a dual motor anyway, so the 45K model isn’t going to be in the cards.
