I hope I’m not in limbo. I have a Rivian Service Center and Showroom 15 mins away in Knightdale, NC. But Rivian can’t sell EVs in NC.

So the actual closest Rivian sales center is 3 hours away in Richmond, VA…

It wasn't an issue for me during R1 launch, but that was before they had any demo centers. I have similar concerns that they are going to prioritize those areas over places that only have a service center in states that prohibit sales activity.

I was originally thinking I could have an R2 by end of summer but this has me wondering if I'll have one this year.

Holy crap. I live in SC and always picked up my Tesla(s) in Charlotte. You can't buy a Rivian in SC but also in NC either?!? So I have to go to GA or VA? Wtf

With the nearest service center being a bit over an hour away from me, I hope that doesn't push my order to far back, but with my reservation being placed in the beginning of 2025, I don't think it will matter.

I had my R1 delivered to me in SC back in 2022. They may not be offering anything like that for R2 though, or at least not early on.

Tesla is the only EV company that was grandfathered in here in NC. So while Rivian can have as many service centers as they want, they still can’t sell in North Carolina unless the state legislature changes things.

But fat chance in that happening, we can’t even put together a state budget and haven’t for the past year.

This might be similar as here in Washington State, as until recently Rivian couldn't sell in-state either (there's a law on the books that goes into effect in October that will change this).... but you can still take delivery in the state. In my case, I was technically importing from Illinois to Washington State. My R1T had Illinois temp tags/plates as well!

That is the guesstimate. Otherwise, it would be "available soon" or "available later".

My local Rivian Facebook group just told me you can take delivery in South Carolina at the (2) service centers, which are also (not so) ironically supposed to be banned as well, as it's some electronic paperwork loophole for delivery. Even Tesla makes you take delivery in Charlotte across the border in NC (or GA if you lived that way).

Very restrictive anti direct sales and service here in SC.
