Leaving from Missoula, MT to Boise, ID on Wednesday and hoping for some guidance as to the most efficient route of travel. Initially we picked up our R1S in WA since the I-90 corridor was very EV user friendly no problems with accessing superchargers. We technically are assigned to the Boise SC and are due for 9k tire rotation. Our friends are meeting us there we have an Appt with the SC Thurs am for this. I have accessed Plug Share and the Rivian apps to determine best route for time but none of the routes look great, any advice? I called the SC in Boise and they only advised to use my navigation Rivian app on the car. I do have the A2Z adapter which has been working just fine as well. Thank you

I haven’t done the Missoula to Boise drive in my Rivian yet, but I’ve driven the routes.

The most scenic and fastest would be take Highway 12 along the Lochsa River. There’s a new 62kw Chargepoint in Grangeville that’s on PlugShare but doesn’t show up in the Rivian nav or Chargepoint app. You could make a second stop in McCall at the 62kw Chargepoint there. If no one else is plugged in to the paired unit, your Rivian will pull 80kw. Depending on your battery spec and tires, you could likely make it all the way to McCall if something didn’t work in Grangeville. The McCall chargers are downtown and there’s plenty of places to get a meal or walk along the lake. This is the route I would do.

If that route seems too risky, the other routes are longer than the drive to Seattle.

Hello, thank you for this info it helps so much! I have a large battery, average 320-340 miles fully charged. My tires are the 21" Road wheels with the quad-motor AWD 2023 R1S 1st gen Adventure Package. We reserved our spot 02/2020 and received our vehicle 9/23 so we are still green with travel routes. We have our own home wall charger which is just great for short hops. If pulling 80 kw how much time on average would it take to get a decent charge to get us to Boise?

Your battery is 131kwh so charging at 80kw for an hour would put back ~60%. With the four chargers there, they are in pairs, you’ll pull less if more than one other car is there.

You should be able to plan the trip on your Rivian dash or in the Rivian app and it will tell you how long you’d need to charge, I have a Max Pack on 21s and it says I would need 20-30 minutes in McCall and could skip Grangeville, assuming you leave Missoula with 100%. I’d probably make a quick stop in Grangeville just to use the rest room and grab some extra buffer.

McCall is a cool town, one of the top vacation destinations from Boise, and is beautiful. I’d plan to spend an hour to eat and walk down to Payette Lake and you’ll have plenty to get to Boise.

The McCall Chargepoint charger you can start from the Rivian app and use your Rivian card on file. I’d download the Chargepoint app as a backup just in case. If Grangeville works, it’s not in the app, you’ll likely need to tap a card.

The Boise service crew is a great and there’s many level 2 chargers around the service center if you roll in low on charge.

Enjoy it, it’s going to be a beautiful drive.

Thank you for this invaluable post it will make our lives so much easier not fretting if we have made the correct decision wrt routes of travel and time to destination! We actually reside on Flathead Lake and are in Missoula 3d/wk so will leave from there tomorrow am. We have our wall unit at the Flathead Lake residence so will need to charge while in Msla there is a new Tesla supercharger at 93/I-90 I will top off today so have close to 100% prior to trip tomorrow. I love the idea of spending some quality time in McCall while charging now we are looking forward to this trip and not so much angst. It will be great to meet the Boise crew so going forward we have a connection and direct contact. Thank you kindly, Julie and Jeff
