Küat bike mount positioning on R1T

Opinions on mounting position, should I move the mount closer to the middle? Anyone driven at highway speed with this mount, wondering if I need a tether or additional straps for higher speeds?

I feel like a strap around the rim and mount on one of the wheels like most racks have would be a nice peace of mind addition in the event the bike squirms out of those vices. That said my Kuat rack seemed kind of flimsy to me too when I first got it but in thousands of miles of trips it’s performed flawlessly.

No! I know people that put a 50lb emtb on that rack and drive like a maniac up fireroads. You're good.

You're using it as intended, and it will be fine. I have mine similarly towards the edge on the passenger side; I take it off-road and high speeds on the highway, and it's been fine. You can observe some jiggling due to bumps in the camera, but that's true of any wheel clamp rack. I also have a Kuat NV 2.0 hitch mount, and it moves around even more, but it still handles off-roading.

Appreciate your insight, not sure what would annoy me more, the carbon bike destroyed if it fell off or the damage to R1T! 40mph around neighborhood was fine, I'll do a highway test next weekend

@TxBrit How does this mount slot into the crossbars? Do they just slide in and hold from the bottom?

They slide onto the bars, and then you push down the clap to lock to bar. You can add the adventure lock which I did so the mount is secure
