For those that use the gear guard cable....be careful. They can be cut pretty much with a fingernail clipper. Caught a guy on the gear guard camera stealing two bikes worth about 10k using a small side cutters to clip the cable. (Fortunately I had Airtags ont he bikes and got both of them back from a group of druggies...after I went into their hotel room and yanked those damn bikes out!!)

And, as for the gear guard cable, why wouldn't there be an alert on your phone, the horn honking, or something when the cable is cut. I made the assumption that would happen. Well.........it doesn't. lol

(Does anyone use the Gear Guard cable?)
Very often.

The flashlight is mostly unused, but I never expected to use it. I have a better light in my pocket at all times, EDC along with a knife.

Camp Speaker. Have not used Gear Guard cable yet but will be with bikes this summer.

would love to do this…i just cant rationalize the cost.
You totally can! I think I got mine on sale and shipped for like, $20. It was an Amazon purchase, yea, but I got the one with the metal connector on the back so the dock will still lock. I will be fully transparent, I don't use it much. But it is nice to have a little extra storage there.

To the point on the gear cable, yeah, it may not hold up to a torch, but if someone wants your stuff bad enough, they're gonna get it. I use it a lot in reference to a post above about casual theft prevention. Increasing friction is enough for the majority of prevention.

Edit: Punctuation

The storage drawer that I bought to replace the camp speaker. Now I can't even remember how to unlock it.

ooooh the amazon 3d printed ones are probably much cheaper. I think one of the ev sites or maybe even rivian had one for $200. That’s probably worth it. Or at least worth not having a random drain on the system. Thanks

The cable is just a good way to prevent some random walk-by crackhead theft. I know it’s not going to stop a targeted theft. It keeps some tools, bikes, or my generator from being walked off during a charge stop and such in places where a cutting attempt would be obvious.

What I don't use:
- Highway assist. I hate the way it drives - jerky and less efficient than a human.
- Camp speaker. Sold and replaced with 3DP drawer; useless junk.
- Connect+ features. Not worth the subscription.
- Rally, drift, and soft sand drive modes. When off road, I am usually in all terrain and occasionally use rock crawl.
- Outlets in the gear tunnel. I do use the bed outlets often.
- Self leveling in camp mode. I don't use a roof top tent, but I do use the tailgate as a table often. I'm just too impatient to wait for the truck to level itself.
- Glass roof. I am never looking up! I wish it didn't exist - it's just a liability to me.

Expected to use, but rarely ever use:
  • Frunk - I store some small things in there like hats and maybe a jacket. Most of the time I forget it's there even when I pack the trunk full.
  • Driver+/highway assist - Forgot the term, but I enjoy driving myself so in the last 30K miles, I've maybe used it for 5 miles total.
  • Camp speaker - Mostly because it never worked, ever. Even after 2 "repairs" from service, it still doesn't work.
  • The household plugs - In the 3+ years I've owned the Rivian, I have never once plugged anything in there. Who knows if they even work haha.
  • Cargo bars - I don't own a set, but I thought it would be the first thing I buy and I'd use it all the time. Don't really see a need for it currently. Probably cuz they are also a little overpriced IMO. If they were $300, I'd have a set. $400-500 used is a bit much, with the black ones costing even more.
Didn't expect to use, but use semi-frequently:
  • Flashlight - We go on walks in the evening and the flashlight is very bright, and always is charged up. I have a collection of flashlights, but often the batteries are weak/dead.
  • Under trunk storage - It is such a large/deep space, that I make use it whenever we go on trips. You can fit an entire carryon suitcase in there and more.
  • Air compressor - For airing up tires and kids toys (balls, floats, etc).
  • Dog mode/climate hold - I use it often when someone is staying in the car while parked.
  • Remote climate - I use it often to cool the car when it is hot out.
  • Hitch - for bikes, cargo trays, towing small things
  • Extra set of off roading wheel/tires
The 3rd row usage is right in between. I didn't expect to use it much, but we do occasionally and it is nice to have it when we need it.

Powered Tonneau Cover.

I thought I'd be using it all the time, but because Rivian pulled it from my build, I'm stuck with the manual one (seemingly for life because the wiring harness)

- Camp speaker. Used it once when camping deep in the woods in bear country.
- Air suspension. Kinda wish I could convert to springs at the standard height. I off-road and drive sporty a lot. Happy enough w/ standard height for most things.

Love this truck so much though :)

I had to use these to connect a 1950's era battery charger at my grandma's place, to charge up her ancient truck battery. It worked, but the fact that I was using my Rivian battery to operate a 120v battery charger to charge a 12v battery was mildly silly to me.

Looked kind of like one of these:

Rivian R1T R1S What Did You Expect To Use… But Actually Never Do? 1775586756230-dr

I was also recently selling a laptop to a guy who I happen to know is "EV skeptical". I smartly turned on the bed outlets prior to meeting up with him. Plugged the laptop right in to the bed to demo everything, even used the WiFi hotspot. I think he walked away at least mildly impressed? LOL. 🤷🤣

Editing my comment to add: I definitely feel much superior to my friend who has a MachE,which doesn't have a single household style electrical outlet. When discussing the "random hypothetical disaster situation", the Rivian definitely seems much more capable as far as being able to power a fridge, etc.

Whatcha rocking?
If you're a flashlight-obsessed person like some of my friends, you'll hate it, LOL. It's cheap. My number one expectation in a pocket light is zoom. I want it to work as a floodlight in an engine bay or working on a trail fix, but also be able to blast a tight beam at the thing that I wonder...deer or bear?

This is solid, but slightly thick, great charging: https://a.co/d/0eaWFXGM

This is slim, but not as good: https://a.co/d/00hnvSxq
