Just saw this being shared on Reddit. Looks like Rivian made changes.

https://rivian.com/support/article/what-is-the-maintenance-schedule-for-r1-vehicles

[below is added by admin]

What is the maintenance schedule for R1 vehicles?
Rivian recommends the following maintenance be performed on time for all R1 vehicles.

Open a service request in the Rivian app or by calling our Service Support team at (855) 748-4265.

Maintenance Schedule

FrequencyService
Every 9,000 milesTire rotation
Every 18,000 miles or 18 monthsComprehensive inspection
Every 3 yearsReplace brake fluid
Every 108,000 milesReplace coolant
Replace drive unit fluid (2022-2024 R1 Quad vehicles only)
Every 12,000 miles or 12 monthsClean brake calipers if driving on salted roads
As neededWiper blades
Cabin air filter

Service Information

Tire Rotation

Rotation of all four wheels and tires in a rearward cross pattern. To maintain consistent tread thickness across each axle, do not include the full-size spare in the rotation. This applies to vehicles with matching front and rear tire sizes; if sizes differ, do not rotate and instead replace tires in pairs on the same axle before tread wear indicators appear.

Refer to the R1 Tire Service Guide for important tire information and warnings.

Comprehensive Inspection

Examines interior and exterior of the vehicle to ensure normal and safe operation and recommends part replacement as necessary. Covers the following and more:

  • Tire pressures and tread depth including spare (if equipped)
  • Brake pad and rotor thickness
  • Brake fluid level, moisture content and system corrosion
  • Suspension and underbody component damage, wear, and fastener torques
  • Vehicle windows for chips and cracks
  • Windshield washer fluid level, spray pattern
  • Wiper blade condition - recommend replacement as needed
  • Coolant level and test degrees of protection
  • Inspect radiator for damage and debris
  • Inspect low voltage battery(ies), mounting and corrosion
  • Driver assistance sensor inspection
  • Verify interior and exterior light operation
  • Inspect and clean cabin air filter - recommend replacement as needed
  • Seat heating and cooling operation
  • Operation and cosmetic condition of interior and exterior parts
  • Vehicle functions check
  • Test drive for normal vehicle operation

Brake Fluid Flush

Replaces the hydraulic brake fluid in the vehicle braking system. Includes bleed procedure on all calipers.

Coolant Service

Drain and replace the vehicle's coolant using a vacuum procedure. For 2022-2024 R1 vehicles, replace coolant filter.

Drive Unit Service

Drain and replace drive units fluid for the Gen 1 Quad-Motor AWD system. Only applies to 2022-2024 R1 Quad vehicles.

Break fluid is very hygroscopic, it almost certain to absorb moisture within 3 years.

Since tire rotation is now 9000 miles I wonder if this affects timing for the inspections that were at every 7500 miles. My guess is yes. Although given the Rivians more aggressive tire wear I wonder if extending tire rotation is wise. Maybe this is an effort to reduce workload on SCs? Just my idle musings…

I had the alignment corrected on my r1 at around 2k, so I had mobile service come out at around 10k miles to do a rotation per the schedule, they measured the depth all around and said it didn't need it, go to go another 7500.

I’ll add another proactive idea I learned years ago as a kid working in a gas station:

use silicon spray on CV boots and other rubber suspension joints every 3,000 miles. Last car; Honda with 298,000 miles CV boots were as supple and like new since conditioning rubber CV boots with silicon spray regularly.

I would never use that. It has a petroleum base that eventually evaporates but will actually hurt rubber. In addition, it has acetone, heptane and other solvents in it which will also attack rubber.

I can't even remember having a CV boot split before the joint wore out. CV joint boots have come a long way.

Yep...I always change out the brake fluid every 3 years on all my cars and trailers that have brakes.

The answer to the $200 “inspection” is do it less frequently or maybe they will charge twice as much to capture the same revenue. I will continue to rotate every 7500 miles..and hopefully mobile service can do comprehensive. This tells me they are ramping up for R2 launch and cannot service as frequently as they want to.

There’s no way that the brake fluid would be the same in every climate. If three years is good in FL then I should get 5+ in AZ. Does anyone know the cost and how long it takes?

Interesting take. This product drys and does not leave an oily residue, unlike others like WD or Blaster brands.

Both of my front CV joints on my 2023 R1T failed at 30K miles. Replaced under warranty. Never did find out why they failed. I have had several boots fail on my Subarus over the years around 80K miles. I must be very unlucky with CV boots.

Well...they don't call them Suckaroos for nothing! I replaced both half shafts on our Honda Element as preventative maintenance at 200K. Boots were still perfect.
