Okk. I need to test drive most of this route that is from a RideWithGPS gpx file. I have loaded the gpx file into mymaps on google and I know that I can then port the map from google to my truck. If you port a route from google maps to your Rivian will it do the stupid map thing where is changes the map on you? I guess I will find out. You can NOT import a gpx file to abetterrouteplanner (I asked).

I want to find a way to do a little preplanning from my desktop to get an idea of charge locations and if I can make it.. then go back to the route and keep going..

The rest of the story. my husband does bike packing events.. and he was tasked with developing the western KS CannonBall 550. The ride starts and ends in Emporia KS. We do not need to test drive the route from Emporia to Salina.. We were going charge up to 80% in Salina at a Casey's EA then pick out the CB route and head to Russel.. and charge up at a Tesla. Then follow route to south of Hoisington and jump off and head to Great Bend and charge overnight at the Best Western. Then I think I can make it back to Emporia on one 100% charge. There are multiple DCfast chargers in Emporia to top me off to get back to Topeka.

So ultimately I think I answered my own question.. and planned the charging myself. I was just hoping there was an easier way.

For those interested this is the route on ridewithgps https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53979584

PS ~20% paved/80% unpaved

(a) Awesome! Best of luck to you both on this cool adventure!
(b) Are you saying Rivian does load the route if sent through that google method? That’s news to me, thanks for sharing. What’s cell service like on that route? Because if your concern is the car will reroute to what it thinks is better—which it may do—could you resend the route from google again during the drive? Obviously you can’t be doing that every 5 minutes, but wouldn’t be such a pain every few hours.
(c) As a backup at a minimum, sounds like you should have a good dashboard phone mount and be prepared to use your phone with that route for navigation. And keep notes from your preplanned ABRP route as to where you’ll need to be charging, and SoC expectations along the way.

Woah! What an adventure! Where do the participants camp? No support vehicles (trail angels) during the event itself?

Oh, and I’d probably use my bike computer for the actual navigation during the test drive to confirm there are no crazy direction errors in the gpx file cyclists will import in their computers. Those creep in far too often.

Bring your portable charger for charging at 14-50 receptacles as a back up in Lincoln, Hoisington, and a level 2 NACS at Lindsburg. Hillsboro has a J1772 charger. Cottonwood Falls has a 14-50. I found these on Plugshare.

This is a self-supported ride that will start 9/25/26? at 7a? in Emporia. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2213618018928431/ There can be trail angels as long as they are for everyone.. not specific riders. If my husband is riding for time.. then he will sleep in the ditch or field/pasture entrance. If it is raining he might hit a motel, post office or church vestibule. It is a ride of gourmet food stops at Casey's and other gas stations along the way.

We will have his garmin running the route and my laptop to do route modifications on the fly. Yeah I figured we would stop for lunch in Lindsborg and top off a little so I can float back into Emporia.

It will be interesting to see how the range will change.. Yes I will be driving slower but it will be on gravel and dirt.
