So will they have a Dual Motor Performance upgrade available like they did on the R1? That means you could buy in at the "base" launch edition and then perhaps 'level up' to the performance model via software unlock???? Think that would be a great option. Allows folks to get into dual motor at a lower price, and then upgrade later if they 'feel the need for speed'!

CONFIRMED TODAY ON EARNINGS CALL:

- First R2 deliveries on track for first half 2026

- First R2 trim will be Dual Motor AWD

- Launch Edition (which will be Dual Motor AWD) will be produced and delivered first

- Launch Edition won't be the most-expensive trim level

According to RJ the R2 Launch Edition is "well-appointed, but it's not intended to be our most expensive version. It is intended to be a very nicely set-up vehicle, which we think will make the most people the most happy."

- Rivian will host an R2 event in early 2026 where outline pricing, powertrains, trims, configurations, and available options will be revealed

Also on today's Q3 2025 earnings call, RJ said

"I've been driving an R2 for a while now, and it is incredible. From performance perspective, it delivers on the adventurous spirit customers expect from Rivian while also being a great daily driver that will fit so many different use cases for our customers."
I wish they would say how many launch editions would be made. I would love one and would hopefully move up in line if I ordered one. But I am a bit concerned about my position on the list as I am not a current or previous Rivian owner and did not sign up until the second day after pre-orders opened.

They made that mistake with the R1 and ended up with pricegate - increasing the price on reservation holders, and then rolling back the decision because people were canceling. I think it’s the right call to wait on pricing until they are much closer to actual production and deliveries when they are certain of their costs.
Agreed. They probably still have some decisions to make on what is standard vs a package vs an option.

I remember on the R1 when they couldn't decide what category tow hooks would fall into.

It also makes sense to release pricing right around launch to keep hype/anticipation/news cycles going as people are making the decision to buy. Rivian wants as much press and news available as possible within the ~60 days before launch. Things announced now will get lost in the shuffle before launch.

They may be able to pull good acceleration (mid 3sec range) given that it's a much lighter vehicle... after all the cheapest R1S is mid 4s range acceleration. So mid 3sec positions it in par with the Model Y Performance.
I'll be very surprised if the dual motor isn't under 4 seconds to 60. I expect there to be a software locked "performance upgrade" to get there, but I think 3-3.5 is what I expect with non-performance upgrade in the low 4s. I think the Tri will be in the same range as the R1 Quad.

My Gen 1 R1S Adventure Quad lease is up in May of '26, so this is going to be hard - 1st gen R1S and R1T Quads can already be had for 50k and 60k (respectively) on the used car market and the new R2 dual will likely be in a similar price range (or higher). The problem is bridging that gap from May to whenever R2 starts shipping. I'm really happy with performance and range on the Gen 1 Quads. Newer, better tech in R2 is tempting, but I'm not sold on how much better it will be and RJ's autonomy timeline. Maybe I need to just grab the cheapest R1T Quad I can find (they'll probably be around $45k by then) and just wait for R3X.

I totally understand going with a dual motor launch version to start. It's smart. But I was really hoping for the Tri-Motor as the launch version. Now it looks like that Tri-Motor won't be available until 2027. I'm seriously considering swapping my 2023 R1 Gen 1 Quad for an R2 if I can get similar performance. But the longer we have to wait for a Tri-Motor the more the R1 depreciates.

Buy a dual motor launch and trade it in for the tri.

Tahoes are bigger than the R1S and the base models start at $60k. I obviously would take an R2 over a base Tahoe, but I don't think many people will be cross shopping them.

I'm really hoping the R2 has one of a few things.......It defaults to AWD all the time, ...
If they have it default to AWD, then I am pretty sure EPA testing has to be done in AWD mode. Very unlikely to happen since range is such a big marketing and sales factor. It will default to 2WD mode since that is how they get the best EPA range test result.

Since my wife got a X7 we dont need 2 3 rows any more. Im a early LE R1S, near 40k and 3 years old. Id go for a dual if 4.5 and 350 otherwise I'll wait for a tri. Needs at least the mileage of a R1.

Don't think we'll see that range out of R2. Over 300 miles has always been the target. 350 is a big jump over that.

I'd much rather have 20-80% SoC in 15 minutes or less than 350 miles. Shorter charging sessions > longer range IMO.

I get it, but sure hope that's not the route they take. It's a terrible user experience.
