I was told today at the new Houston Service Center that my aftermarket running boards have to be removed to lift the R1S up on the lift. They claim that it is a safety issue and all aftermarket running boards have to be taken off. Oddly enough, this was not a problem during previous service appointments. According to them it was decided in May of this year that all aftermarket running board need to be removed at the owners expense and will not be reinstalled because of liability.
Wonder if anyone else encountered this ?
It is not like we have alternative options for service and warranty work.

I think it really depends on if they have to do service work that requires them to remove them otherwise they should be able to lift it up just fine. Honestly if it was just for a generic tire change or something stupid Id take it elsewhere.

I agree and I do, but it had to go back for warranty work, replace the trust washer in the wheel hub. As a further for my report, after I picked the SUV tonight and looked under it the bolts of the running board were not touched, so I payed the $225 for nothing. I guess we have to pay for the new service center somehow.

What brand running boards? Do they cover or intrude on the lift points?

It’s all about which GM you get and whether their center needs the funds. Over 75 threads on topic and that’s about only rhyme or reason.

Even the same service center will tell 2 different people 2 different things 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have @electruck4x4 Megawatt sliders, had a whole rear drive unit replaced under warranty, they didn't mention sliders at all. A few days later I did a tire swap and could see where they lifted using the sliders in the rear with an emblem imprint on it, but these sliders expose the front mount point so they must've used the pucks there. No imprint up front.

If the $225 is itemized for removal of the running boards but they were “not touched” (not removed for the service) then you should have not made to pay for it.

They are EV base boards that mount to the frame but do not cover the lift points at all. The brackets are clear away from the lift points, and I marked the lift points. The same service center has lifted the truck in the past with no problems.

So they charge $225 to remove the running boards (about 8 bolts per side) and they won't reinstall for liability reasons, yet there are running boards on the truck when you pick it up.

Something does not add up to $225.

My SC has never had an issue with my running boards and I've had two different service managers comment on how well they look in the truck.

They wanted to charge me to remove the bed cargo rails which are held in by the STOCK hardware points that they were removing anyway. It’s just a crapshoot on whether you get some power hungry asshole.

Came here to say this. Nothing new. Well known issue discussed ad noseum in the Armor thread. Sliders/running boards are YMMV from service center to service center.

Sorry to bore you, but this was new and surprising to me. It never happened with any other brand that I owned in the past. I guess this company does not like aftermarket accessories but their own and this is how they fight back at the owners.
