Big companies are resilient, depend on no one person only. Main lesson learned in corporate America: everybody is expendable, replaceable. No exceptions.
No exceptions… yet Tesla won’t get rid of EM even though he’s their biggest liability.

So Rivians can learn how to drive through Wile-e-coyote walls without slowing down?
Have never seen one of those on any road. Going out on a really long limb and guessing good luck ever finding one.

No exceptions, full stop. All employees are expendable, replaceable; no doom and gloom for a company just because somebody leaves. I think that you are missing what that most fundamental of job laws means.

I think that you are missing what I wrote. If there are no exceptions then why does EM remain at Tesla? Clearly, there is an exception: Elon Musk. If anyone is responsible for Tesla’s declining sales it’s EM through heavy-handed involvement in product development / demonstrations, claims which prove to be false, and his actions in the public sphere. Yet he remains.

That's the funny thing. There is no other employee of Tesla who's responsible for declining sales to the degree Elon is. So blaming and firing other employees is just a waste of time. I don't recall national protests because Tesla employed the VP who got fired.

Exactly. The VP was a scapegoat and I hope they got a nice package on the way out.

Rivian sales overall are, as Tesla sales overall are trending downwards
The subject you brought up was specifically EV trucks; though overall deliveries are also not trending well either for Rivian. I obviously hope they change this, but it’s an odd flex at the moment

either way, I see the Tesla chip on many posters shoulders here is still strong as ever & this remains the only forum I visit where I see other products discussed so much that the front page is consistently flooded with discussions that are not of the brand the forum is for.

If you read all of my comments on this thread it would be clear that my discussion was on Tesla's overall trajectory as a company, NOT just the CT.

Second, the reason Tesla is mentioned so much is they are the yard stick in which other EV companies are measured. Tesla set the standard, so it shouldn't be surprising when they are discussed. For me personally, I don't have a chip on my shoulder over Tesla, I just never liked them. If it wasn't for Rivian making a product that was actually compelling to me I would still be driving an ICE vehicle.

I undestand what you are saying. That is a different situation and unrelated. EM remains in place for whatever reasons, and a company and a company board most certainly reserve the right to keep whomever they want.

I am speaking from the practical aspect of it, which is that all employees are expendable, replaceable. Should one quit, there always will be another one ready to take his place. No sweat or loss for a company.

He remains because majority of the board is tight with him, and they all got filthy rich riding on his coat tails. When they start losing big, and things become personal for them, then and only then would they think about turning against him. Not likely to happen though; i.e. them losing big.

The Tesla BOD has been mostly hand-picked by Elon himself. And they happen to be highly compensated compared to other company BODs, which doesn't exactly incentivize them to act in the best interests of the company vs. him.

Tesla also included supermajority voting in their bylaws, so with Elon's ~25% equity/ voting stake, it requires a ~90% vote from all other shareholders to override whatever he wants.

Man, if only the Tesla software experts joined the Rivian software group. If only Rivian were so fortunate!!
I disagree. I own both brands and Tesla UI has moved away from the original cohesive layout circa 2018 to bloat ware. Much prefer my Rivian.

The situation is different only in that it’s EM and your hard-and-fast rule suddenly doesn’t apply.

It’s absolutely related when someone responsible for sales is being judged based on Elon’s actions.
