PSA: Make Sure to Check Your Driver Side Mats and Passenger Side Mats for Moisture after HVAC drain Plug Campaign

I’ve never had issues with moisture or damp carpets until I had the recall performed.

As soon as I noticed it, I called Rivian and they got a ticket created to have me bring the vehicle in next day and provide a Jeep Wagoneer as a loaner and are working to get a hold of a R1S for me by next week.

From speaking to the service advisor, it sounds like they’ve ordered new carpeting and insulation to replace the old carpeting and insulation.

Out of curiosity given the details as to the cause, have you been using any cleaning products for your interior? '23 R1T and actually pulled up the mats last weekend to clean and no issues. I typically use Gyeon interior on mine.

A friend of mine however in a later 2023 R1S had this issue.

I barely use any cleaning products on the interior. I also used Gyeon ceramic products mainly the interior ceramic coating around 5,000 miles. Since then, I've only use a basic microfiber cloth and chemical guys all purpose interior cleaner for the screens and dash.

The first time I noticed this is after the HVAC campaign and I regularly remove my interior mats and wash them down and let them dry overnight outside the vehicle in the garage. I am very use to removing my mats multiple times a year prior to the HVAC campaign.

I just finished dealing with this exact issue. Gen 1 early vin. Noticed mold under my drive floor mat about a month ago. Rivian repaired it, replaced the carpet and I thought wonderful! Two weeks later, more water in same spot. Back to Rivian for two more weeks. They could not replicate the issue the second time for days until they drove the vehicle with the AC cranked on. Said it was coming from the base of the HVAC case. They also said this was something they had not seen before and sent the inquiry up to the mothership. A few days later they got some guidance from higher ups, and all seems fixed again. We shall see. Fingers crossed....

same here and same issue literally just discovered in this heat wave after I curiously slipped my hand under the drivers side mat. I had the new hvac drain plug installed at my last service a month ago. Not happy.

Ya their drain valve replacement didn't quite work. No issues prior to this. Then I had moisture under the driver side mat. Said it was from the heater box. So it took a week to fix. First issue in over a year and half caused by Rivian.

Curiously, I was notified for this fix too. I'm going to decline it, until I actually notice a problem. Gen 1 R1T, dry so far --- also here in the humid southeast.

@JackRussellRacing I will say after they changed the heater box out it's working a week later. But if you were taking it the Greenville, SC SC (double SC) that where the issue that wasn't there suddenly appeared. So definitely not a drain valve issue. Plus I noticed after the "fix" no condensation drop from the AC after parking after the first fix. So keep an eye out for that. The drip is back now, but more of a pain having to drive from Charlotte to Greenville on the 13 year lane widening on 85.

No SC nearby. Rivian wanted me to go to a 3rd party tech in Hickory NC (an hour west of me in Winston Salem). To drive an hour each way, and then have to sit for a 2-hour service simply doesn't 'feel' right -- for a problem that hasn't manifest yet.

Well the Charlotte service center should be opening within 3 months. So only 55 minutes from Hickory...with no traffic.

Can anyone try to dig up service manual procedure 266468010?

The Service Bulletin isn't very helpful in trying to locate the drain valve itself and inspect it, which I'd like to do ASAP since my service appointment for this is currently mid-August!
