Hello all,
I needed to find an excuse to buy a R1S and now i have the perfect excuse, our eqb 350 doesn't fit us anymore. there is 3k offer in addition to the 7500 lease off on the R1s , then i will be having R1S for 75900 almost and i would like to buy out the lease in a couple of years.
My questions are :
do you think is it is good offer compared to buying a used R1S?
I heard negative things about the gen 2 R1S should I get a used Gen 1 R1S?
Did Rivian change the build quality for the newest Gen 2 ?
PS: I will wave back

GEN 1 R1T QUAD, GEN 2 R1S STANDARD
Currently own a pre-price hike Gen1 T and have had a great experience. Zero issues other than taking it in for optional suspension upgrades (TSB's).

Convinced my wife to trade up her car for a Gen2 R1S Standard last month. Car has had many minor annoyance issues, both software and hardware that should have never made it out of the factory. From loose trim, rattles, HVAC issues and losing the functionality of the left side of the car one morning. It has been more of an adventure than we were hoping for on Gen 2.

Still a great vehicle, but not worth what they want for them now. We were planning on buying out the lease right away, but not so sure now. Lot's of little compromises when comparing it to our great Gen 1: Door's on Gen2 feel cheap and rattle like crazy. Sound system is terrible--but improving with software. New cameras are great!. Heat pump is loud an buzzy. Range is not as advertised or estimated on screen. Standard pack (LFP) is simply just not enough range for anything other than around town.

Take all that for what it is. Just our experience. I'm sure many on here have had the complete opposite experience going from Gen 1 to Gen 2.

Ya, if you can get a new R1S for ~$75k, definately get it.

I think Gen2 has some significant improvements. The headlights are really nice, as are the improvements to the ADAS system. I've owned both a gen 1 quad and a gen 2 trimax and the only thing I miss from gen 1 was my Meridian sound.

IMHO the Gen 2 RIS that I own has much less wind noise than the loaner Gen 1 R1S I was given at an appointment. I happened to like the ride quality on the Gen 2 better than the loaner.

The Gen 1 build quality for whatever reason felt more solid to me. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Probably the best advice is to test drive if you haven't. Good luck!

I had a Gen1 and loved it...

Traded it for the Gen2 and love it even MORE!!

The autopilot features are amazing, they fixed suspension issues, and now I get over 400 miles of range.

You can't go wrong with a Max Pack Gen2.

I see as a rivian outsider i might not notice the difference in the Build quality because I did not see Gen1. I will wait a bit more maybe deals get sweeter. Thank you everyone

Gen2 are crap. Gen1 is the original and best Rivian ever built.

I'm joking. I own a G1 R1S and love it. I also recently drove a G2 R1S and the ride was nicer. My R1 is on 20s and the G2 was on 22s. Not sure that that made a lot of the difference. I do feel that the cars are getting better as Rivian has more experience.
