Storage drawer in lieu of camp speaker

I know Rivian states that the one in the gear shop is only Gen2 compatible, but has anyone tried to see if it works with Gen1?

The camp speaker is compatible cross-generation, so I don't see why the drawer couldn't be

Drawer does work in Gen 1. You have to really push to get it to lock then drawer opens/closes without issue. When drawer Is closed it seems that the bottom track isn't attached to anything (except for rear lock) but when open it's solid. Hard to explain but I have no issues with this.

Do any of these lock in place while the truck is locked? Similar to how the gear guard cable locks and unlocks? It would be great for added security, but I'd hate to have to go into screens to unlock it while driving. I've read from others that the speaker is sometimes locked while driving, sometimes not, which makes no sense. Maybe I misunderstood it.

I have the BestEvMod drawer and it works great. The locking mechanism works as intended, but I ended up putting a piece of tape over the contacts since I really only keep napkins and sunglasses in there

My only complaint in general is that it's a pain to get in the drawer if your cupholders are occupied, but that isn't their fault.

Yep, the Rivian drawer is 100% compatible with Gen1. Installed mine last Saturday.

I don’t think that’s a thing but I’d love to learn otherwise!

Mine does not automatically unlock when the truck unlocked so I put tape on the contacts.

@JM. , just to be clear…
My G2 came with the OEM drawer in lieu of camp speaker. The FRAME for the drawer locks and unlocks (allowing removal of entire assembly) whereas the DRAWER slides freely. Also note that the drawer front has about a 2/3 closed face, so it is not ‘sealed’ even if it could lock (I.e. you could reach into the drawer - with some difficulty- without opening it.

@PhatDaddy is correct, Rivian's drawer does not provide secure storage. Gen1 vehicles do correctly recognize it as an accessory and lock the frame in place automatically, same as Gen2. The drawer can then be opened and closed freely (there is enough resistance that it doesn't fly open under decel but there is no latching mechanism for the drawer itself).

After trying both, the BestEV one I like better and it’s half the price. The rubber mat in the Rivian is real nice!
