Hello All,

now that both platinum and m/s 2 are available in the 275/65/20 configuration I wanted to see if any of you who have either of these tires to share the experience.

what is the best among these two to get. I’ve seen previous posts of platinum in the 285/60 and m/s 2 in the 276/60 connotations. There is recent feedback on the m/s 2 275/65 configuration but very few on 275/65 platinums.

from what I gathered going through threads M/s 2 is better but looks bland.. vs platinum looking better but less efficient ? Is this true on the 275/65/20 configuration as well?

thanks for your advise.

looking to replace extremely loud OEM pirelli.

just need a quiet and smooth ride - I don’t off road and mainly drive highway

I installed the Michelin LTX M/S2 on my Kia EV6 GT-L about 23,000 miles ago. They served me well and are at 50% tread depth at this time.

I put the 276/60/20 M/S 2 on the Rivian RiS about 7,000 miles ago. SO much better. Quite, smooth, handles well. Not for rock climbing but they did off road without an issue going to White Pocket.

This configuration will now match the odometer to within a half percent.

The speedometer is about a mile and a half high but that's probably a Rivian offset.

It would help to list what your priorities are? What might make one tire "better" to someone might be based on different priorities than yours. I had considered both of these tires and went with the Goodyear Territory AT 275/60/20 instead based on my priorities.

It was between the Goodyear and the M/S2 rather than the platinum. The platinum was a much heavier tire, and I didn't want the extra weight to impact braking, acceleration, and efficiency.

As my post said: Quiet and smooth ride is my priority. I mainly drive highway and never off- road.

I was also hoping if anyone has the new Defender LTX Platinum with 275/65/20 configuration- they could pitch in their experience.

If only quiet and smooth is your only priorities, I'd say the m/s2. Heck, my factory Pirellis were both until about 8k miles.

For reference, the Goodyears I am running have been smooth as butter all the way up to the speed limiter. There is a very faint hum at about 20 mph that I can only hear when the radio is off. I think my motor whine is louder than it is TBH.

In your situation, I'd clearly go with the m/s2's if you are only considering MIchelin.

thanks. Yes the Pirelli’s are unbearable at 30k. Also yes I did want the Michelins but the LTX platinum is a fatter tire and I was assuming it would better absorb the bumps on the road but could be wrong.

I’m very happy with my m/s2. It dramatically improved my ride quality and cabin noise. They do look a little bland but not to bad imho. I posted some pictures on X:

There are always a tradeoff. As I posted elsewhere, the m/s2's are the best minivan tires for a Rivian. Which is awesome if that is what you want/need. The narrower tread width was one of the reasons I personally passed as I wanted more contact patch. That was a big plus for the Goodyears and they didn't weigh much more.

I didn't want a super heavy tire that would hurt handling and ride quality. Obviously, it impacts efficiency as well. If I was going hard core offroading, I'd go for the heavier duty tire.
