I've been studying, adjusting, listening and mostly enjoying the Audio in my R1T Gen 1 for quite a while. Apple Music launched and also had been getting better with each update. Then one-day after a few updates ago, it went back to crap. I thought that Rivian had gone back to a sound setting that was terrible. They had claimed on that release to have made volume differences between standard and Atmos tracks better, so I thought that might have been why.

Two releases later I was looking in the settings and I saw Sound Check on. Turned if off and OMG was it night and day better. Sound Check takes away so much dynamic range, takes out the punch of the low end no matter the volume level, and made the level drop dramatically. Interestingly this setting doesn't affect Atmost tracks at all.

I suppose that I could have done this accidentally, but I rarely use these features, but for all that is good in this world, please turn off Sound Check.

If you have Atmos and Sound Check turned on, the Atmos tracks will be super loud and the non-atmos ones will be quiet.

But yes, generally older tracks are quieter, but for my Genre/habbits, it's not that different.

My only gripe with apple music in mine is how some tracks are way louder than others.
I've been frustrated by the same thing, I notice this most of all between Atmos and non-Atmos songs.

After this most recent update I turned SoundCheck off and it seems to improve things, the volume has been much more consistent. I can't tell if Atmos songs are quiter or non-Atmos are louder, but I don't care as long as I'm not having to adjust the volume all day long.

Agreed. Someone else recommended this a few months ago and after turning it off, the overall sound has been better.

Thank OP for the advice - I’ll make sure mine is off.

When will we finally get voice commands for Apple Music???

I don't know if you are a Dream Theater fan (they are prog metal). Their new album is amazing and uses Dolby Atmos technology. I invite you to listen to the third song on their new album "Parasomnia", the song is called "A Broken Man". About a minute into the song there is talking and the first time I heard it on the Gen1 Meridian system in my R1T, I got goose bumps. The sounds (drums, guitar, singing) all came out of different areas of the 12 speakers.

I have listened to the album on my headphones and while you can hear the same voices on the left or right....it is different. I have 3D and Surround sound on, on the Infotainment system as well as Sound Check.

I'm terribly confused by why this is even needed.

The Rivian is my only music setup where the volume is drastically different for non-Dolby Music than Dolby music.

Like today I was listening to a thumping bass and clear vocals yet the volume was set to 2.

The next track was non-Dolby and I couldn't even hear it.

How does Sonos get this right and Rivian doesn't?

It's not like Sonos has a track record of getting things right. :p

I've seen DT many times in concert. I've fallen behind with them the last few years, I will definitely do this.

I'm just curious, can you share the two track names, I'd like to listen for myself. And you also have Sound Check Disabled?

You hve to stream "A Broken Man" on the Rivian system. I just checked, I have "Sound Check" check on my phone.
