Thank you for this informative post. One of the gen1 vs gen2 differences is the ability to recognize cars to the side of the vehicle. That must be with the side cameras, not mobileye, correct?

I'm sure they will start replacing the Mobileye functionality with their Autonomy Platform to the point Mobileye becomes useless or used for redundancy.
The NVIDIA system has two SoCs, so presumably already includes redundancy. Failing over to Mobileye is going to be problematic as it’s not spec’d to work in every scenario where the Orin can.

That's right! It also uses the rear camera for that functionality.

In the last month it has uploaded 228GB worth of data on my home wifi - all presumably going to train the Rivian AI.
This is quite distressing. Where I live for the moment there are no good unlimited data options and my cap is 500GB. Rivian would use half of it?? The cost is 10 € per 50GB. Rivian would tax me up to 50 €.

So turn off wifi. Problem solved, right?

There's a setting to turn off data sharing

Not exactly, or let's say, it's a big compromise. At my location there's no cell service, so the only way to remote control the car/app is to have it on wifi. My Tesla is connected to wifi, and if not, then there's no way to change things like charging, turn on HVAC, and the like.

But someone else said you can disable the sharing part, that would indeed work.

Idk, I have heard this a couple of times but I still have not really seen any evidence of it. Based on the wording in the following video, it sure doesn't seem like it is there. She mentions that there was a mobileye camera in the Gen1 vehicle and points off screen to the wall of ECUs and then says it is all consolidated into the one board. If you look at the board, I don't see anything that looks like it would be mobileye chip...I only see the two nvidia chips. And there is no camera on the wall for the gen2 vehicle. So if it is there, they are hiding it.

It wouldn't be a part they integrate into their board. It would be a stand alone module in its own enclousure, bought directly from mobile eye as a complete unit. And you're right about them hiding it. IF they are still using mobile eye, they wouldn't want to publicize that, because the new autonomy platform is a HUGE part of their marketing push for Gen 2 improvements. The wouldn't want to udnermine that or send the wrong message.

It is certainly possible they're not using mobileye still, but I personally have reasonably high confidence that they are.

She points out that module for the Gen1 vehicle, but not the gen2. Someone should just open up their Gen2 and look lol.
