My wife is seriously looking at the R1S Dune to replace her current (pejorative term for the vehicle deleted) elon-mobile. Rivian says it has 351 range in conserve (i.e. the same as my G1 dual motor large R1T). Does anyone have any data they can share on how the vehicle with the AT package performs on conserve/hwy (`75 mph)? As a reference, I get a pretty solid 310 miles out of my truck when cruising the highway in AP. If the Dune will get me the same, I think it will be fine when she needs to road trip. Lots of $$$ so looking for a little real-world data. Thanks!

In the very limited time I've had in our TriMax - when in conserve it's performed very similarly to our dual motor in terms of mi/kWh. A tiny bit less efficiency when stopping/starting, but when doing a consistent speed, seems virtually identical.

That is very encouraging. Are you running ATs?

I’ve done 2600 miles in my TriMax R1T with AT 20’’. I get around 2.2-2.6 miles per kWh on the highway at 70mph in 65F temps in Conserve mode, standard height. Around 300 miles range. SF Bay topography so hills and flats.

Rivian just started offering the 22” Range wheels so I’m looking to get a set and compare.

I don’t have the 20’s but I would be surprised if they didn’t get at least 310 in conserve. I get 2.6-2.8 with the 22’s and the battery is bigger than in your dual that you’re comparing it with. Also be careful with what you called the car you’re replacing, admin gave me a talking to about using that term.

Sounds like you’re not new to EVs but of course that range isn’t doing 75 on the highway. I agree with Donald in non winter conditions. 295 to 315 with AT is very likely.

Thanks info and thanks for the friendly warning. I updated the first post.

The AT tires are brutal on your range. So bad on my second QM R1T that after I picked it up I went straight to tire shop and switched to all weather Michelins. Not sure why you want the Dune, but if you want maximum range get the dual non-performance. I currently have the Tri Max with range wheels and at 75 mph on the interstate I get 2.5 - 2.7 efficiency. That is in temps 40 degrees and above.

The dune is a great value. It's 8k cheaper than my tri was and you get a few extras above and beyond what I did like the maxtraxx and crossbars.

"My wife is seriously looking at the R1S Dune..." Happy wife, happy life.

It is a very nice package. I've seen many people say they prefer the Ascent interior, but we really like the more rugged interior (especially the rubberized flooring instead of carpet). And, tbh, the aesthetics on it are great. She is not a fan of the Rivian colors now that Compass Yellow is gone. I think she still regrets selling the yellow quad R1S.

I think the Ascend interior vs the Dune is more Range Rover vs Land Rover Defender. They are both nice, but one is made for getting dirty and is more rugged and the other is meant to be more luxurious. There's no correct one, just depends on your preference. I like the Dune interior, it's aesthetically pleasing, but I prefer the Ascend because it is more stylish but at the cost of durability.

Hey there Bob! Can't say your the only one I have seen in this situation.

No hard numbers to share...but...like others said it should be similar (though slightly less) than DM in conserve mode. When in conserve mode the Tri behaves like the dual and disengages rear drive units above 20 mph or so. There will be a slight penalty for Tri because below 20 mph you have two motors back there instead of just one...but for highway cruising it should do very similar as long as you keep the speeds in check and don't push too hard on the accelerator.
