Bingo! (pun intended) Though our R1S is a early 2024 dual :) Also to be clear our original R1T was mechanically perfect until it went in to have the paint fixed - its the new gen2 one that is a shit show so far.
One has to wonder if it would been better just to keep the paint flaw.

I have a very tiny OOPS in my driver side door that I've just left. It kinda drives my GF mad because it's noticeable.

Part of why I haven't gotten it fixed is this irrational and illogical sense that somehow the universe will target my R1T with a bigger problem. So in that sense having that small imperfection protects it.

I mean look at what happened to your baby when it was dropped.

The universe loves nothing more than punishing perfectionist. When I was younger I was more eager to get things like that fixed. Now I'm like "Every day that I don't die is a good day" and I shrug it off.

I'm afraid that you have some electrical gremlins on your R1T.

If they don't get them sorted out with this SC visit then I'd try to unload it.

With electrical gremlins its not just putting up with a problem, but they can happen anywhere. It simply too big of a risk. Plus the inconsistent braking sounds dangerous if you're not aware of the issue.

My first Rivian mobile tech congratulated me after inspecting mine. He said ”yours was one of the real good builds based off the VIN”. Fortunately for me, I am sure he knows exactly what he meant.
what’s your VIN?

I actually would possibly have left it - but Rivian both convinced me that it would be a straightforward fix and that without it being fixed they would not be able to honor the corrosion warranty if any issues occurred down the line :(

I do have high standards, I’d not say to perfectionist levels. I do however expect a $100k truck to be safe to drive especially with our two year old son in it - they took that feeling of safety from us through negligence the first time, and with the highway assist and brake issues on this new one it’s virtually evaporated with the replacement.

I almost threw up reading your post and the multiple times you accepted delivery with obvious flaws once even after the buyback. I would have left Rivian long ago or any brand with that kind of experience. Who has time for all that?

I love my T but I'd be out immediately if only a fraction of that stuff happened.

The USB power issue was one I was glad to see they resolved.
It's not fixed. The just fixed the part that was causing very frequent resets. It still doesn't negotiate power correctly.
I don't think USB power has been resolved yet has it? Its giving the s00nish folks issues still, I'm watching pretty closely as their chargers are great in our gen1 and the factory gen2 charger is really only marginally better than the gen1 was.

Good to hear from another person who went through a buy-back though, I assume you got a replacement R1S and things were good after then?
Correct, not fixed. The Soonish Gen2 charger is great, but is stuck relying on two USB ports until Rivian gets the act together.

Just a different anecdote for you.
I have an early Gen1 quad R1T. In general it's great, but I've had several warranty replacements that haven't endeared me to Gen1.

We had a Gen1 Quad R1S, which we traded in for a Gen2 DM. Our Gen2 hasn't yet had any issues that aren't tied to Rivian software, and overall I personally prefer it over our Gen1 R1S. That being said, we got our Gen2 with the price discount voucher with our final early reservation. I would not have bought it at the current pricing.

Your service center and local collision repair centers suck. I'd have thrown my hat in and moved on.

Rivian saying they have a "media spec" really must be a joke. They have had several vehicles in the hands of media that obviously have issues.

Rather than echoing what everyone else has already said, what I continue to be surprised by is how Rivian still seems to have a minimal (or none) predelivery inspection. It’s not even something I expect the dealer/service center to do. The defects are things that should have been caught as the vehicle rolled off the assembly line. Basic things not working shows they don’t even go through a checklist of any sort before delivering the vehicle to the unwitting customer.

My current R1S was delivered with a broken and non working front passenger B pillar/seatbelt. I was offered a service appt in 2 months and was told “oh just don’t have a front seat passenger.” And that was my second R1S.

The first R1S broke down one block from the service center after driving it off the lot (turtle mode, rear motor inoperative) and after a lot of hand waving a reset and reassurances I drove the vehicle off the lot again only to have a catastrophic rear motor failure 30 miles down the road. This led to a buyback.

As soon as they admitted your truck fell off the lift, I would have been done. That is what they have insurance for.
I like the concept of the company, and would love to encourage you to press on.
I truely hope they succeed. Unfortunately, I have lost my faith in the company. I don’t think they are going to be able to support non early adopter R2 buyers. My wife is done being an early adopter as well.
Maybe, someone like VAG can acquire the company, and support them through a legacy dealer network.
When I get my R1T back from service, I will try to sell it, and move on. If I can not get good money for it, I will be my own service, Warranty or not, and buy parts online from various vendors.

100% This! - Absolutely everything in our saga would have been resolved, or not even occurred in the first place, if Rivian had done any meaningful PDI themselves, had better quality control checks in place on the production line or even at least validated that the work they collision center network was even done, let alone done to an acceptable standard. This especially hurts after all the promises made by the repurchasing team and customer support that the replacement vehicle would receive an extra level of care above any beyond what they would normally do for customers - which in retrospect is in itself highly worrying.

I think Rivian will get better at the fit and finish stuff over time. My main concern is that the constant changes in configuration and hardware inside these things will lead to unreliable software and just overall more bugs and longer fix times. Between all the hardware/firmware changes both within and across generations 1 and 2 how many “versions” of an R1S or R1T exist now? Even something I took for granted on every car like the FM radio seems totally unreliable now and the sound system performs differently sometimes from update to update.

Anyways sorry to hear of your saga portdirect. I would probably put up with it all as you have done as these autos are so awesome when working and I would have a really hard time letting go of my R1S. I hope they get your situation sorted out.
