I think we all now agree this is True. but I thought more on Why??
After watching a teardown of the Gen1 quad by Monro Live they state that the rear motors combined make 420hp and the front 415 lets just call that a 50/50 split.
As any good SPORTs car enthusiast knows you want some rear power bias for spirited driving.
it seems like the solution they went with on the Gen1 quad was to dial back the power in the front some.
While this thread was started as a bit of a complaint I now am rethinking my position and give Props to Rivian for dialing in some rear bias to sport mode.
If I would have looked close at the limited info Rivian is already displaying for us its right there. Full power to the rear in both modes. Sport pulls just a little (125hp total) back from the fronts. and im down with this now that I know it and why and knowing I can use AP on the highway if i want faster acceleration more then the rear Bias. I love this Truck.
What I do wish Rivian would give us is the ability to customize our own drive modes and a bit more detaild data like a graph that displays power output with the recent max shown as a number. Maybe I want max throttle responsiveness, no rear bias, and low brake regen. Teslas have it. (the ride hight limitations are there for a reason, you cant have full acceleration at high ride hights due to CV shaft angels/stress even though we would all want it)
Monro also noted that the Stator on the rear rivian motors is significantly larger and that there might be room for potential power output of the rear drive units though software. I trust though that there was probably a good reason they chose to pull back from the front vs adding more power to the back. but we can dream.
Note on the Gen2. Obviously the Tri motor will be rear bias. The duel has a more powerfull unit in the back, and even the gen2 quad is using more powerfull rear motors in the back than in the front. Im glad to see them doing this.
