In that case I step on the wheel and grab the side and stand up without touching the side of the truck. Then again, I spend a fair portion of my free time rock climbing.

I do that too, except I learned the hard way to not do it while parked in my garage. I drove my head right into the garage door while it was in the open position above the truck bed Luckily my skull is 90% concrete.

I blame you people for this. My truck now has a big scratch on the bed because a friend reached over the side to help me unload, and the metal pen in his shirt pocket scraped it. He also used to think the hook was silly.

You guys are doing it wrong. When something is in the bed and you need it out, accelerate hard, then it'll be easily removable from the tailgate. Bonus unloading points if you leave the tailgate open.
