Had clearplex windshield protecting added to my R1T in March 2023. There is an area near the pillar on the driver's side which looks like the film has been stripped - almost as if the windshield wiper gradually scraped it off. No bubbles or any other issues that I can see.

Called the shop that installed it, and they said the clearplex usually only lasts 3 months. Pretty sure they didn't mention that when I paid $600.

I believe XPEL makes a windshield protection too. Haven't read of any experiences with it though.

I have to think though that the warranty wouldn't be anywhere near as long as ppf because you have constant wear when the windshield wipers are on.

These guys did a pretty good video on it.

Also a test

I have STEK Dynoshield.
They say it should be replaced every 3 years but only warranty it for one.

I've had it installed a touch over 16 months now. And except for a tiny bit at the top starting to peel (which I just cut back to prevent it from spreading), it's been phenomenal, if not a tad harder to clean than just bare glass. But it takes everything the road's thrown at it so far!

I looked into this exterior film a couple years ago for my windshield. My tint guys said only install it if the vehicle is kept in the garage, not driven too often and they still didn't recommend this product due to failures and short life span.

If the cost is $600 and it only lasts for 3 months, it would cost $2,400 per year which is more that my auto insurance on my R1T. Also, they might charge more than $600 for a reinstall as they would have the spend several hours getting the old crap off. It would seem that windshield protection is something that I would have no interest in.

FWIW, I can say the same about my windshield. ?‍♂
You live in Dallas.

I live in a part of the US that has famously terrible roads that aren't cleaned, kempt, or maintained by competent people. :D

I'm hammered with (at a minimum) stones and particulate on a daily basis. And frequently can SEE the rocks/road debris being thrown up from the vehicles in front of me.

I've literally not owned a vehicle TO DATE that didn't have a windscreen with multiple chips and or was replaced at least once during my ownership until this truck. And one of the first things I did was install a windscreen film. Maybe I didn't need to, but I dig the peace of mind.

EDIT: OH, and I did select the 'deductible free windscreen replacement' on my insurance. And my state mandates insurance-covered patch jobs (filling chips and small cracks) I'm just hoping to avoid the hassle.

That tint goes on the inside of the windshield and will not help with rock chips ;)

I had Clearplex done on 5/6/24 at a cost of $250 with a one year warranty. I removed it on 8/1 and it was overdue. It was trashed. It got much worse near the end during a road trip where I used the windshield washers a few times due to bugs. It was never fully clear, and got worse quickly. It has a one year warranty, great. So I drive over there (nearly one hour away), wait a couple hours, and get a new one. Cool. Which last a couple months again and is never clear anyway?

Nah, into the trash, and I'm SO happy to have clear vision again!

You've obviously never driven in Dallas. ;)

I was literally in Fort Worth last week good sir
Not long enough to fully "appreciate" our roads, especially during the winter.

So… I wound up leaving the PPF on the outside and adding the tint on the inside. The shop believes the glue on the PPF is the cuplrit, allowing the windshield wiper to damage the PPF

An interim solution… the PPF still protects most of the windhoeld and the damage isnt visible from inside.

Disappointing learning that PPF is an annual replacement
