Rivian Announces The Yosemite Charging Outpost

This is a great idea. Where are other possible ones - Great Smokey Mtns NP, Yellowstone/Grand Teton?

Rivian could buy the mostly unused V2 Tesla site in West Yellowstone. It is not suited for Tesla demographics and the wires are already in the ground. (Save one in case a Tesla shows up.)

What's annoying is the it only has five stalls - and appears to have no "towing" stall. When it has that pull-through that would be perfect for one!

I'm glad that they built it, but 5 chargers seems undersized seeing as Rivian will be opening up RAN to all brands. The smallest Tesla location I've seen has been 8, most are now much larger.

There are V2 Tesla chargers across the street, 2 CCS stations a few hundred meters away, and more stations at Buck Meadows and one at Rush Creek Lodge. But the Outpost is the nicest and fastest in the area.

Buck Meadows often derates, but Electrify America is upgrading ‘legacy equipment’ as of July 18

This is great but Rivian needs to install RAN chargers in Mammoth Lakes, CA a destination almost as popular as Yosemite. It is prohibitive to go back down to Bishop to charge and Yosemite/Lee Vining is an hour away. Peeps stay in Mammoth for weeks at a time for their adventures. Thx JB

This is a great option, but remember if going into Yosemite (even to drive over Tioga pass and not go into the Valley) you either need a reservation, or you have to enter the park super early in the morning (like by 5 or 6am). Plan accordingly.

There is literally zero space to have any more dispensers. In fact, it should be a 6 dispenser site, but there was no space. There are 3 power cabinets on the site, so figure out which is the lucky one dispenser to get a power cabinet all to itself and will therefore never derate.

I know one of the guys who planned the site and he left Rivian 2 years ago. So yeah, it took well over two years from when the site planning started to getting completed. Which is to say, just because you want a new site at some location doesn't mean it can magically appear in months.

I'm actually heading to Yosemite soon and wondering what if any rules there are to entry? It seems like it's for Rivians only but I am traveling with other families, will they be able to enjoy the amenities too while they wait for my rivian to get charged?

You can do it without charging, but getting a NACS adapter and going to the correct Tesla Superchargers is better. If you are staying for weeks, I would look for a place with level 2 charging. Home charging has spoiled me.

If there was ever a place to showcase drive through charging for those towing a camper, this would be it. Nice facility, but it’s not going to entice anyone to buy a Rivian for towing.

I would like that too but highly doubtful they're going to open a RAN there anytime soon as there's a relatively new Tesla V3 SC station opened now which is also open to all with adaptors. Given that station, I don't think Rivian plans to open a RAN in Mammoth Lakes in the next several years if ever.

I think they need to open RAN chargers in locations that don't have any DCFC. That would open up more adventure locations.
