Okay, fellow Riviarian’s…. As mentioned in this thread -

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/jebinc’s-installation-tips-and-review-of-ev-sportline-r1t-bed-tie-downs.28939/#post-555513

I received both my @EV Sportline Cargo Crossbar Storage mounts and Gear Tunnel slide (and optional storage accessories) while vacationing in Okinawa and Tokyo for the past two weeks! Since I’m quit jet lagged, I decided to split the review into two threads. I only had enough energy to do the subject install today. I will get to the slider and slider accessories in the next day or so (whew)…. Keep an eye out for that one as it will be chock full of information and pictures!

Giveaway: First, as a result of this install, I had to remove four of my 16 EV Sportline tie downs (just installed a few weeks back). That means I have four extras…. In an effort to thank @EV Sportline for producing so many products for our Rivian’s, and for being a Rivian Forums Sponsor, I’m going to “Gift” these four tie downs to the first local (local to me for pickup in Covington, Maple Valley or South Renton Washington) member who DM’s me with an intention to purchase three additional sets of four from @EV Sportline. Once that winner DMs me with proof of purchase of three sets from EVS, I will arrange a pickup point with said winner, for my free set! This free set will get that lucky person a complete set of 16, for the price of 12. I will post in this thread, once they are gone.

The product was well packed (same for the slider), and the actual mounts are a high quality black anodized aluminum (not paint)! Each of the two brackets has the word, “Outside” silkscreened (in white) to make in clear that the thinner 6mm mounting bars point skyward. The thicker (10mm) resting bars should be the lower (closest to the bed floor) than the 6mm upper bars. @ EV Sportline also included a set of hardware (in case you want to wall) and an extra 6mm bed bolt, in case you lose one. Nice! See attached pictures.

Being overly OCD, I sprayed mine with dry graphite (same for the slider slides and mechanisms) – more on that in a few days. See attached picture.

Installation Tip: Use a ball-end Allen as it makes getting the provided 6mm bolts an ease to install. Also, you want the mounts to be as low as possible and underneath (not touching) the auto tonneau cover and gasket (if you have one).

Overall, I’m pleased with the product, and the wife will be pleased not having to worry about tripping over the cross bars as I used to have them strewn across the floor in the garage! I’ve included a picture of the final install as well.

What do you think? Nope or dope?!

Nope - not for me. At least not installed in the bed like that. I can see installing them on the garage wall though.

I can understand why there would be times you wouldn't want the bars installed over the bed, but in that circumstance I would prefer to relocate them to the OEM roof mounting points or the gear tunnel or the frunk (or the garage) before I would want to mount them like this.

I cannot think of many advanges of storing them here vs the other options when I wanted them out of the way. And often I would expect that the circumstances that made me not want them over the bed would also make storing them in the bed less than ideal.

Most of the reason for me doing this mod was because pulling them off the bed and storing them “loose” in the garage was the hassle - removing them, and finding a spot for them (off truck) every time I wanted to haul something in the bed that was higher than the bed, like my scooters, Super Cub or HD material. Also, when needing to hop up into the bed to get things, or to clean the bed, etc., walking in the bed area was a PiTA with them attached to the top bed rails, and having them laying around on the garage floor was also a hassle/safety concern (trip hazard). Wall hanging might be okay, save for those times when you’re, “out and about” and end up at a place where you need them for the shite you just purchased, spontaneously - being able to slap them on the bed quickly (vs going home to get them) would be most beneficial. To each! ?
