Hey folks

I took delivery of our Gen 2 R1S two weeks ago. It has software version 2024.19.02. I am having A LOT of issues which appear to be software so I wanted to see if it's just me and just inpatiently wait for an update or it could be something with my car.
Here are the issues that I observe on daily basis:
  • The USB-C ports in the armrest/center console don't work unless I restart the car. Once rebooted, they work fine for a drive or two, and then stop working again.
  • The mirrors unfolding doesn't work consistently
  • The cameras (both blind spot and for parking) don't re-adjust to ambient brightness...I need to reboot vehicle. If I reboot they adjust properly for the first drive (let's say it's at night) then the next day they don't re-adjust and are overexposed during the day (i.e. they keep the exposure settings from the night)
  • Kneeling doesn't work consistently
  • The audio sounds really bad, even though I have Premium Audio. It's definitely worse than my gen1 R1S.
  • Every time I start driving I get a message that the passenger door lock is not working and I should use the emergency latch or something like that, and that message disappears within 2-3 seconds after appearing.
  • The interior lights don't always turn on when I enter the vehicle
  • The vehicle stays on with fans running, door handles open for quite a while after I exit & leave.
  • Autopilot can't be activated most of the time... as if it became compatible with less freeways than gen1

Anyone else?

Thanks!

I haven’t seen any of this reported for GEN 2, or 1. Did you inform Rivian?

I told them about the mirrors and USB-C ports (and a hardware issue with the doors not latching easily unless you slam them hard). I have a mobile tech coming on Aug 5 but since most of these look like software issues and I don’t see anyone else reporting them it got me wondering what’s going on.

If nobody here says they have these issues too, I will certainly do that. But I will wait for a day or two, if more people report them then perhaps it’s just software issues which they will probably fix.

If doors latch easily, except for the last one to close (whichever one is last), I assume the vehicle is airtight. That's a sign of good manufacturing, not a defect at all IMO. The only way I know to fix that is to vent something, either temporarily or permanently.

Best wishes!

Might as well report everything. Each separate item should be aggregated across all users to determine how widespread each issue is.

To echo @Dave Cundiff ‘s comment above, my rear doors were are more difficult to close than the front ones. I intentionally did not add it to my current ticket because I noticed a bunch more weatherstripping on the rear doors than on the fronts. Removing the weather stripping would surely make the doors easier to close but I do not want to futz with creating door wind noise. Is the quantity of weatherstripping different between the front and back doors?

I never tested them like that, always tested them one by one for some reason, so each test was - "this door is the last". I was skeptical of this being the issue after reading your comment but decided to give it a shot just in case (for science! ?) and boy oh boy - you are right!!! If I keep one door open, the rest close just fine ??‍♂
I will call Rivian tomorrow to explain this and perhaps scratch it off the ticket.

My issue with reporting everything is that if I do, they will tell me to go to the SC... and the SC is an hour drive each way, that's total of 4 hours of my time, and I've been pretty busy - I don't have 4hrs for non-emergencies. With the current list they agreed to send a mobile tech and I might use the occasion to ask him about the other stuff too. Or I will be calling them tomorrow anyway and will explain about the other issues but ask that I still keep the mobile tech and only if he's unable to help then schedule a SC visit, let's see.

I hear ya. I would do the same. The mobile tech should be able to identify the issue is even if they cannot fix it.

I have USB-C port issue. Posted about it a few days ago. Fan is pretty loud but my first rivian. I just assumed it was loud because of heat etc.

Hah. The mobile tech that’s come out to me twice (and has forgotten the part one of those times) wouldn’t even bother to look at anything else.

That happens too.

Trying to be the tech’s best friend can backfire and make things awkward.?

Congratulations on your gen 2!
I have seen the complaints about the USB-C issue and also the fan staying on after the vehicle shuts down.

I would put in tickets for each of the issues. When they are reviewed by service the appropriate teams should be notified. They may ask you to bring it in, but you don't have to bring it in right away.

The idea is to get the issue in the system so hopefully they can address it with software fixes if that's possible.
