Any ideas why the dual motor large pack R1T is losing 22 miles of range in Gen 2?

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

Different battery sizes if I'm not mistaken.

Because it's a smaller battery. Large dropped from 128.9 to 109.4 kWh usable.

They opened up large to 131 kwh later on. Large pack on Gen 1 is 141 kwh gross. I would speculate we are looking at a software limited max pack on Gen 2 large. If there are 9 modules in the Max pack for Gen 2 nerfing 2 modules with software would drop it to 110 ish kwh. Pure speculation on my part.

Interesting. It seems like there is a big jump between gen 2 large and gen 2 max. Something in between would be great.

I think you mean Max pack is 141

Yes true. Rivian did this intentionally I am sure based on the Gen 1 max pack. It was only an extra 11 kwh over large. Rivian also forced the higher trims like Tri and Quad to the max pack. Its actually pretty smart what they did. If the large is indeed a software limited max pack that opens up the possibility of Rivian offering the upgrade via a software unlock. Its also possible they produced a pack with two less modules. I guess we have to wait for a tear down.

Nope large pack is 141 gross with 131 usable. I posted pics a while back of three packs from a salvage yard. The max pack is 142 kwh usable according to the EPA docs. Not sure what the gross is on those....should be 150 ish.

Its funny because one of the first range tests showed about 126 kwh usable on earlier large pack. That would be a 10% buffer for the top and bottom of the battery making 90% usable. After various software updates it looks like the 93% is usable on Gen 1.

Rivian was very conservative in the beginning. They also limited fast charging speeds as well until they had sufficient data. Then they updated the software to unlock full 500 amp DC charging.

Hmm interesting. Hard to say when the 4695 battery starts replacing the 2170s. Maybe that's just the lfp version of the vehicle like Tesla's 4680 or whatever.
