Charging at a RAN and enjoying some exquisite BBQ, I realized my meal would have to be cut short so I could slide back across the street to move Dark Energy so a waiting T could juice up. As I slid the remainder of the juicy ribs into a to go box I dreamt about having D. E. tell the waiter that if he unplugged my truck and stepped aside it would park itself elsewhere freeing up the charging spot. If only the vehicles could communicate with each other and even their owners through esp or something...

A little California Dreaming, but a very cool thought.

The foundation for that tech is already there, very possible as Tesla's can summon now. For a software perspective I'm sure an R1 could do it as well. The Charger could even tell the R1 where to park that's open. Very doable, sound like you need to patent that quickly.

I'm still waiting for top Gas chains, even Costco to put in EV chargers with all that parking space going unused in every Gas Station in America. Bucees is the only one I've seen, and seem like this should have happened a while ago. Passive income if they made them solar like RAN's and extra customers for the food/drinks inside.

We had a new Costco go in last year. They included 6x EA stalls when they built from scratch. So Costco is at least testing options. They're probably making decent money off of it given how frequently those chargers get used. I've never seen an EA station as consistently full as that Costco.

It also looks like the big truck stop chains (Pilot, etc) were big winners of NEVI grants. So those should be pretty available in the coming years.

Awesome about Costco, they have enormous lots, so back back corners go unused except during Nov-Dec. Your right about Truckstops, I forgot, I charged at a big one with a GM branded EA and it was covered. Went in and had Denny's breakfast, not recommended but at least we had someplace to eat and relax.

I joined the EV revolution believing it is the right thing to do. We are in the data collection period. We opted for the R1S max to gain “comfort”, and I am certain that 2 years from now we will be much smarter. For us, longer than 500 miles—we fly and rent! But my wife was really happy to see 130 miles left after our drive from Gig Harbor to Cannon Beach, and that is real value!! So keep sharing, this forum is extremely helpful to educate newbees, and sharing data helps all of us.
