Can't say I know either, just inferred it from your description. When I was there a Rivian next to me plugged in (I assume successfully charging). I couldn't get either of the other two to work.

I had issues with the Super Z chains coming into contact with the front and rear of the wheel well at speed, aren't you finding a similar issue?

I’m not sure that anecdotal evidence is going to convince OP since their posting history has consistently been overwhelmingly negative towards Rivian and positive towards Tesla. There have been enough (mostly Tesla) trolls on here that a lot of us who have been here a while are suspicious when someone seems to have a clear agenda. It’s easy enough to view someone’s posting history and this person started from the very beginning, before they indicate they purchased a Rivian. Here is a sampling, with emphasis added to some.

“…read the room, kook”

To this thread, the only one created by the OP to date and with a very anti-Rivian/pro-Tesla title and narrative.

I’m not saying this person is definitely a short seller, Tesla shill, or even a troll… but it’s easy enough for any of us to look at the OP’s history and make our own judgement call. I cannot understand why anyone who is so down on Rivian from the very beginning would proceed with the purchase. It seems like an awfully expensive and frustrating way to engage in confirmation bias.
Thanks for summarizing.

I also find it funny that he comments that "the large gap between Rivian product/feature announcement and delivery is really the only thing this company consistently offers"... while ignoring that Tesla is maybe the best at doing that. I'm still waiting for my robotaxi on my Model Y. Hell, my full FSD that we purchased in the Model 3 never even demonstrated anything 'full' before we sold it... :)

When my wife saw the first promo videos for the R1S "Adventure" vehicle cruising up a mountain with ski racks and a truck full of happy passengers, she turned to me and said, "I'm sold."

Fast forward 5 years, I am looking at the R1S range 'snow mode' and the 93 miles left has to last through freezing temps tonight, tomorrow, and then the trip down the mountain to Bishop. Based on the range loss I've seen the past few nights in much warmer weather, I think it will be a pretty close call and I just don't feel comfortable putting my family in that situation.

So, in a blizzard, I jump in the Rivian with my 21" All Seasons and ask Alexa to navigate to the only public J-connector charger in town...a level 2 *Tesla* box at the Mammoth Recreation Center that offers *free* charging.

Rivian navigation decides to take me the long way around on Old Mammoth Rd instead of straight down Meridian ?

I actually tried to charge at this Tesla station earlier in the day, but an R1T was charging at the only box out of 3 that connects successfully.

As I make the turn into the lot, I see a Lucid charging at one of the J-connector boxes that failed me earlier in the day. The Lucid obscures the view to the one charger that worked a few days ago, so as I plow through a foot or two of snow, I am super relieved to see the working box is available.

Thanks, I guess, for the Adventure RJ, I'm super pumped to sit in this parking lot for the next 2 hours. A sincere thanks to Elon for saving the trip by offering a working charging station for a connector you don't even use AND for offering NACS to the rest of the industry (RJ, I was hoping the adapter would be available for this trip...but we all know, by now, the large gap between Rivian product/feature announcement and delivery is really the only thing this company consistently offers).
My question is - What are you using for all-season 21" tires? ?

I didn't have any issues <20mph. Maybe a little above 20mph depending on surface conditions, didn't use them that long.

So, in summary, your Rivian got you up to your destination, got you through a blizzard with many feet of snow, and you have plenty of juice left to get you back down. Sounds like Rivian did a great job, and this has been exactly my same experience here in Colorado going back and forth to the mountains most weekends. Not sure what any of that has to do with Tesla.

Apparently Tesla is always there to pick up the slack for Rivian, like a knight is shining armor!! Or... if Rivian delivered the camp kitchen or entertainment apps it promised, the OP would be too busy cooking or watching game of thrones to write the initial thread?

Mostly right, I don't know about plenty of juice, I'll post once we are down the mountain. When I left the Tesla charging station last night range said 115, app says 99 miles right now. We won't be leaving for several more hours.

93-16 = 77 if I didn't charge last night, seems a little dicey.

Guilty as charged. Any mention of Tesla or Elon and the RJ fanboys lose their minds, it just so happens the title is true and there's a broader point I was trying to to make...CCS infrastructure SUCKS and Rivian will get a huge boost from the opportunity to use the supercharger network, hence 'Tesla saves Rivian'

There are lots of you never-Tesla RJ fanboys who have denigrated Tesla/Elon for years, just check the forum history. Let's see you stick to your principles and avoid Tesla superchargers...which of you will reject the free adapter?
Still don't understand your naive point except to kick the nest. I think there are others besides just me who weren't a fan of EM before we bought our Rivians.

Any idea how much of the 16 miles you lost is vampire drain versus vehicle use? I saw the overnight temps are single-digit °F so if not parked in a garage or plugged in I imagine it’s using more energy than you’d like just to heat the battery.

Rivian navigation didn't take you anywhere, dude. If that was your route, it's because you drove that way. Are you 19 years old and never lived without your iphone?

Range loss overnight is probably ~20 miles
Mine only loses 2 miles per day when sitting. 20 miles overnight is way too high - read the posts about "vampire drain" to see how to debug this yourself, and if nothing works then schedule service to look at it.

Great points! This is sad. Tesla is a great American company. They created a lot of great products. I've said this before. Rivian is also a great American company. Why do we have to bash one or the other? OP needs to step up instead of blaming the car.

I realize you're going to get a lot of heat from EV apologists here....after all this is an EV forum. But in all honesty, I appreciate reading about real-world experiences like this because it shows some of the limitations that people can face with an EV. Not everything is going to be sunshine and roses all the time, so reading about hardships during a trip kind of keeps everything real, if you know what I mean.
Agreed. If he'd left it at that, I think we'd all agree. The problems are a) the post is incredibly whiny, and b) he pretends that it's somehow godlike that Tesla happened to put a charging station nearby. I mean, why not "Tesla almost ruined me!" for their decision not to locate a charging station closer to him?

The real post was "EVs don't have as much range in winter, the somewhat unpredictable options at the resort where we stayed turned out to be insufficient, so I had to make an unplanned detour to get charging." It's not a Rivian or Tesla experience. It's just an EV experience.
