They should not open reservations before announcing the starting price and rough production timeline. Keeping the pricing open will give them some flexibility and they can avoid price hike limbo like they did with the R1..

I assume they will start taking reservations around Q3 2025, if they plan to start production in early 2027.

GM and Honda sell 20+ models…they can afford to go after every market segment. If you have to choose one and your life depends on it, you go after the biggest one

the top 3 selling cars hitting 400,000 per year each in the US are the CRV/Rav4/Model Y

The trax and Kona are peanuts in comparison
I do believe Rivian will be popping champagne corks if they breach 100k units/year on the R3 on the first year. You saying the Trax is peanuts doesn't make it true.

What's the metric we're working against? Everything must be the Model Y in popularity? Clearly that's not possible.

Late to this thread and didn’t see it mentioned but why not have Magna build them? Sort of like the Fisker Ocean which looks impressive but Rivian brings their software stack and a service network.

I watched the MKBHD review and thought the Ocean was a decent design, many of the negatives were software where Fisker is perhaps underinvested. Magna builds cars for many, such as over 500k of the MB G-Series, so they can build a great design and should be a great fit for Rivian to pull the R3X forward without the capital cost.

That would make the people of Georgia pretty upset with their $5 billion investment and cleared site ;)

Yeah they're already pissed. Pretty ironic, really. A year of legal red tape and burned cash, costing billions in market cap - and their legislators are looking at Rivian like hey wtf?

You think that's how it went down? I kind of think Rivian dodged a bullet with the drop in demand. I actually think the people of Georgia have good reason to be pissed off. At both sides. There's a whole other thread where we're hashing this out.

As far as car companies go, Rivian has least of "this company sucks" going on, let's not turn a celebration thread into one that focuses on pooping on local rural people hah, we're picking the only thing that can rain on this parade.

I'm just going off articles like this one: https://nowhabersham.com/after-rivi...awmakers-look-for-ways-to-punish-the-company/

Can they add a ramp for the R1T so I can put keep my R3x in the bed of the R1T for rapid deployment when wanted…

I hope they don't until it gets "closer" to actual production. No point in putting down any money when the production is still 4-5 years in the future.

Good morning

I‘ve been watching Rivian since before they sold their first truck, and I was sold on getting a Rivian by the Long Way Up series. I didn’t buy the pickup because I have a nice 5.7 Tundra with only 200,000 miles. Just broken in. :like:

Any thoughts on when reservations will be taken on the R3X? Really looking forward to getting one. There is a Rivian service center about 1.5 hours from me and that is a big plus.

On the one hand, not opening reservations until they have a starting price and production timeline is the best way to prevent disappointed reservation-holders. On the other hand, I'd definitely put a refundable $100 deposit down today on the R3X even without knowing the final price (or final specs) both as a show of support and because I think it's cool as hell.

With the original R1 vehicles, and now the slightly smaller R2 and even smaller R3 line there really will be a Rivian for every family member!

Neither of my mid-20yo daughters need or want an SUV at this stage of their lives, but when I showed them the R3 vehicles.. they both said.. "I'd drive that!" which a great sign for Rivian going forward!
I’m in my mid 20s, and I haven’t been as interested in any vehicle in years as I am for the R3. It’s my new dream car.

I’ve never been much into SUVs, trucks, or big crossovers since I’ve never had a need. I don’t plan to have kids or have any other need for an SUV or truck in the future either. I prefer smaller vehicles for their handling, fun driving, easier parking, and efficiency. Their lower prices are a big help, too.

A big reason that the R3 appeals to me is that it’ll actually likely be about 18-19 inches shorter than my already small Mazda 3, yet I’ll have even more interior space both in terms of seating and cargo. Sure, there are other smaller-sized EVs out there, but none of them really appeal to me.

The Model 3 is the only other EV that has really interested me due to its tech features, design, performance, and just overall value. But I just can’t get over the too-minimal interiors to the point of not having your speed limit behind the steering wheel or even just stalks. Plus, I don’t like Elon, Tesla’s privacy practices, or the fact that it’d feel like I have a generic car because there are so many of them on the road. The Kia and Hyundai EVs seem popular and like a decent value, but they don’t make me feel anything. They just look like yet another average car turned EV. And they don’t seem to have the focus on tech and software that Rivian and Tesla have. Plus, I’d have to deal with dealerships.

The R3’s gorgeous design, both interior and exterior, is really what draws me in. That rear taillight, hatch shape, and the openness of the cabin is stunning. Then there’s the focus on well-designed software both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. And again, the tech features. I also like what I’ve seen of RJ a lot so far, which is just icing on the cake, and Rivian’s nature-themed ethos in their branding and vehicles.

If all goes according to plan (fingers crossed), I will be buying a house within the next year or so. Once that’s done, I can start saving up for the R3, have enough saved up by the time it launches, and get a home charger installed in the new house. Just hoping nothing goes wrong with my Mazda in the meantime.

I’m super excited. Can’t wait to have a fully charged vehicle every morning, instant torque, more space in a smaller package, faster performance, tech features like routines and motion cam, and that gorgeous exterior and interior.

I think Rivian understands the R3X is already popular and desirable. im sure they're going to do as much as they possibly can to release it as soon as they can. that being said, they need to get the R2 out the door. there's a lot that needs to happen in order for them to start delivering in 2026. in the meantime, it needs to be a hit and they need to build the Georgia factory. lots of dominoes.

id guess they are going to open reservations for the R3X in 2025 (assuming they have a target release of 2027). in the meantime, its fun to speculate and banter about the design and specs.

if you want to join another group specifically to discuss the R3X, id suggest this: https://www.reddit.com/r/RivianR3XEnthusiasts/
