My wife got her R1S a couple months ago and she loves it. However switching between vehicles is super annoying. First off we are not using key fobs cause that’s super lame and I hate carrying keys (I can’t go back)

Every time you switch vehicles you have to go into the app and select the Rivian you are driving before leaving . It was ok at first… but now I despise it.

Anyways, our first world problem could be fixed in an update I’m sure, but will it ever? It’s not high priority for Rivian I’m sure.

Can’t the app just know which vehicle I’m in ?

Anyone else hate this with the same passion or have any real solutions?

Thanks

It's annoying but the wife never drives my T. When I drive the S it's a minor annoyance to have to switch up in the app.

Obviously the app can't be connected to two vehicles at a time. My suggestion is to just use key card or fob for the one you use less often.

Although I like your Idea with the Key card and I might try that. I have limited room in my 3 card wallet lol

However will I have to adjust my seat?? At least the app recognizes me and my preferences.

This is a problem we hope to have in the next couple of months. @240vPlug don't see any reason why the app could not connect to many vehicles without needing to explicitly select which one - it's just Bluetooth at the end of the day. Like @Byulasfjazz would love to see seamless access to multiple vehicles with PaaK, until this post I frankly just assumed it would work without having to manually select via the app. Probably worth checking rivian tracker to see if something's covering this, and if not creating a (community peer pressure) feature request.

Get a Ridge wallet ?

Key card and fob can be assigned to whichever profile you choose. When you unlock with the associated fob/car it should pull your profile automatically.

The card is *soooo slooowww* - would take much longer than swapping profile. I browsed the rivian tracker website, will write up a request there this weekend if no one else does in the mean time. This actually would be pretty frustrating for us (not a deal breaker though - but certainly makes me think perhaps we should think about a model x again); our driveway/parking pad only enables one vehicle to enter/exit so have to shuffle them often depending on who got home last etc.

It's my understanding that it's a limitation of Bluetooth. You can connect up to 7 at once but you can only use one of them at a time. So the app would have to somehow know which vehicle you were trying to operate. Fairly easy if only one of them is near you but if both are in your garage/driveway then it becomes more difficult.

I am not a BT expert by any means.

@240vPlug can do a long explanation tomorrow if it helps, but you can connect to multiple devices simultaneously. Easiest practical example being that you can listen to music on Bluetooth headphones, and paak still works.

I have multiple Bluetooth locks from the same vendor/app in my home and can easily open any of them without having to open my app.

I don't think this issue is due to a limitation of BLE.

I hear you. My wife has an S and I have a T as well. I would score the annoyance a 3 out of 10 in our case. Usually I only drive the S when heading out on a road trip (pretty much every other weekend nowadays ?) and she only uses the T when heading out to ski. I could see how it could be a major pain if you are alternating more often.

Maybe setting up separate iOS action shortcuts for each vehicle would help?
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/action-shortcuts-for-iphone-how-to.20892/

I don’t have two Rivians but I have noted that when setting up shortcuts you can select the vehicle from a drop down list. I assume this would allow for different shortcuts for different vehicles. Or, to get fancy, create a variable for the vehicle name.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
It’s an interesting technical question, though certainly not insurmountable.

This won’t be an issue for us until the R2 releases, which … then it will.

They’re going to need to sort out proximity and priority asap. It affects a small number of us now, but will be a much larger # when the R2 drops.

Its just a software feature that they haven't prioritized...since...how many 2 rivian households are there? (they would know too.....they have data on how many apps have multiple rivians).

I am one as well....and yes...its annoying but not too bad. Should be added as a feature in the future.

Its not a bluetooth limitation...tesla has added multiple PAAK into their app for a long time without having to switch profiles.

It sounds like your chief complaint is the unlocking method doesn't recognize your seat position. I second previous recommendation, each of you default to Your vehicle. Then when the other drives, just switch profile on the screen. Doesn't that work?
