Edit: Straight up sale now for $80,000 firm. Slightly over 13,000 on odometer. Trade situation will not work out due to NYS law and sales tax. It's private sale or dealer trade only at this point. :(

This is intriguing… I have an Adventure forest green r1T that was delivered in April. Currently sitting at 13.8k miles with underbody shield, 20 dark ATs, and ocean coast. The only issue is that I’m in CA, but are you in principal interested in the truck? I can send over pics and videos.

I am absolutely serious. Should we do it by auction value? This is where it's gonna be tough, auction houses don't have a lot of samples. Not gonna lie man, first glance we're looking at like a $15k+ gap just skimming carsandbids with mental math averages, lol.

So while I'm down, now that I'm looking for values, just want to call out that I'm 100% not looking to eat equity for no reason, I could just otherwise go to a dealer. Figure out what the value is and go from there, save any money lost in trading the car in otherwise for both sides.

Oh mine is also going to be in a movie, "The Companion" from New Line. I didn't get to see a script, it's all secret for some reason, even the plot. They used both my R1S and my Ioniq 5 (which was the lead's car). So kind of cool I thought to be able to say when I sold the car. It wrapped production this month so I'm guessing maybe Spring release?

Edit: As for living in Cali, I don't mind traveling, but it's going to be awkward if we don't get to see each other's cars in-person and one of us drives out there and finds a surprise. Let's just work out the principle first and I'm kinda nutty with road trips so we'll figure it out I'm sure :D

We're getting close to go time for me on making a decision on trades, etc.

Let's update this and call the value $84,000 firm for either sale or trade. That represents the rough "private sale" price which will split the difference between dealer trade and retail and benefit both parties equally.

I know these threads get a lot of views and I know people know I move cars for movies and whatnot. I'll share what I've found over the past few weeks. Maybe I'll make a brief post on this when I make a final decision.

Wholesale/dealership offers have been $75,000-$79,000 with a sprinkle of uncertainty as most used car managers still haven't even heard of the car. For retail I'm finding TrueCar and CarsandBids to be pretty representative of $84k-$88k with outliers higher/lower on both sides. CarsandBids is a place to avoid if you have actually used your R1S. While auction/dealership value is essentially unchanged under 1 year and 20k miles, on CarsandBids you're in a sea of people flipping no mile cars maintaining a weird early market anomaly, 1 R1S sold as low as $76k which is absurd given the auction values (think savings on sales tax for trade at dealership making this a losing proposition private sale).
Overall I think the residual on the R1S will remain strong and you can see that reflected in the lease math on new R1S (I think I saw 6x%? Insane.).

My prediction is long term, R1S is more quad motor and R1T is more dual motor based on how the used markets are playing out. Total speculitive hot take though.

Edit: Car will have closer to 13,xxx miles after this weekend.

Mid 80k is with no mileage (auctions). At 13k miles I’d take that 79k wholesale value to be honest. Or find a dealer with a T and trade it. New S are 96k on the lower end. IMO if you can afford 84k on a 13k miles used suv you can also pay 12k more for brand new. Just my opinion however. Good luck either way. Cool truck!

I was in same boat. I sold the R1S for $85k to a family with kids and dogs (essentially at break-even after the tax credit by the time I added in the tint, mats, etc etc.). Now looking to buy the R1t but want the longer range / efficiency of the dual motor anyway.

You might have a hard time trading if you think your used S is worth $15k more than a used T with very similar mileage. Unless his is dual motor I guess?

I don't care what I think the value is, we'll base it off 3rd party valuations, no drama. If Galves or whomever we choose to use as reference says the difference is x, we'll go with that. There's definitely a gap in both the start price and the residual so far between the R1S/T though, pretty sure we're all aware of that.

If it doesn't work out, no drama either, there's a floor to what I'll do because of sales tax reasons. Frankly I think trade to dealership might just work out on the "ok well private trade is going to be complicated" but I'm willing to try. Being in the auto industry if I can save a few dollars by trading privately instead of selling/buying/trading through dealers that's worth at least seeing if it works out.

Honestly I'm tempted a few minutes daily to nix the whole thing and trade for an F150, the prices on those are looking pretty darn good, just don't want that size in the burbs of NYC :(

Are you restricting your pickup truck search to those only running on electrons or will dino fuels work?

Definitely electrons. Only Dino I'd consider is a 4XE Wrangler but that reintroduces the bed problem so probably not even that. Dino truck would get minimum miles per year and stack miles on my wife's car which, we've been there when we were a 1 BEV household. Was a pretty stupid place to be!

Womp womp, was mid-negotiation and learned I'd have to pay full NYS sales tax on the truck. Kills any deal, would be better for both parties to just trade in at that point to a dealership. Price is firm (for aforementioned tax reasons).
