Been trying to figure out how best to keep my interior clean and fresh looking, and the wood paneling was starting to look quite dry. I know it’s just a thin laminate, but thought I could try using the same wood oil I use on my butcher block. Seems to revitalize quite nicely! Has anyone else tried Boos Block Mystery Oil on the wood trim? Doesn’t take much, and gotta be careful around all the other finishes (vegan leather, plastic, metal, etc… so many different materials in this interior!)

I should have taken before and after pics, but can post some of the after pics at least.

Pictures would be great! I did this on brown open pore wood veneer in my previous ML63 and it gave it a nice luster/sheen. I’ve been curious how it would look on Rivian dark ash. Would be great to get a sample to test first as once you do it your committed.

I'd be concerned about the veneer delaminating.

So, it’s a subtle difference, but in the first picture, you can see the untreated area at the bottom of the screen (looks more white) vs the treated area above. This is ~2 weeks out from when I used the oil and it still looks great. I feel the grain is smoother than prior to oiling.

Do you mean in general? Or with oil? I worry about warping/delaminating with excessive heat and drying out. I guess time will tell on this one.

Thanks for the photos! IMO, a nice but subtle improvement in look/feel.

I would love to see how it looks on the dark ash trim. Effect could be very different given its not as “natural” a color. Maybe one day I will take the chance and try it.

Also agree hopefully doesn’t cause delam down the road. Again, I had it on my Mercedes open pore wood for 2-3 years before I sold it and no problems. But different manufacturer and possibly different process of laminating.

I should have tried it on the dark ash loaner I just gave back, lol! Had to have a control module replaced…

With the oil messing with the adhesive that they used to glue the veneer to the plastic backing.

I recently had the same loaner I had over a year ago and wish I tested this. The ash wood was definitely lighter/faded compared to my vehicle and they are around the same VIN# and I don't remember it like that when I had the loaner last year. I think it sitting out in the sun all day may have done that whereas I keep mine in the garage.

Added oil might become a dirt trapping system. On the Butcher Block, you’re always wiping it back down, and it is a very closed pore system. Only time will tell if this is a success.

I worry about how my dash is going to look in a couple of years, but then again, I’ll likely have a small fender bender that totals the car - food safe oil won’t help with that.

All valid points! I’ll keep y’all posted if anything adverse happens. Just trying to figure out how best to care for all these different materials in the interior.
I don’t plan on reapplying unless the wood appears dry/rough again. I don’t suspect it will interfere with the adhesive, given the small amount I used, but who knows…

My wood surface is extremely rough and impossible to wipe. Are all Rivians not like that?

It’s the way they all are. Wipe with grain with clean microfiber. Not against. And there is really no need to go that far past dusting… unless you spilled stuff on it.
