...they lowered their prices by up to $17,479 on some of their trims and by significantly more than $10,000 on all trims but one. Lariat Extended Range is the trim I would personally be interested in if I were shopping for a truck; with a tax credit, it's $69,995 compared with $85,974 yesterday....
If you can find a dealer that has dropped their previous $10K+ dealer markup, it is more like a $28K+ price cut.

Sadly I almost expect higher dealer markups if the price cut actually draws in more customers. Ford dealerships aren't going to leave that $18K on the table if they think they can take a cut of it.

...There is also a fourth group, perhaps the largest group of all. It includes moderate income working people from all 3 groups above who cannot afford any of these expensive EVs. These guys are buying sub-$30k Maverick trucks, including hybrids, because of affordability. Ford has tripled production and still can’t keep up. This should be a sobering observation for any EV truck manufacturer, including Rivian.
The appeal of the Maverick is more than just economical reasons. People are paying $40K+ for decked out Maverick's with dealer markups. Part of it is that full size trucks have just gotten too darn big. The Maverick brings back the size trucks used to be before they were supersized.

I think that bodes well for an R2 truck variant.

It should bode well… as long as it comes in at the right price target.

There are some $40k Mavericks that are loudly discussed, but the bulk of them come in much closer to $30k or less. Volvo has also put down a marker at $35k starting for the EX30. The GM Equinox is supposed to start at $30k. The R2 SUV version needs to be in the $35k-$45k range, maybe less for a truck version.

And they need to get it out before R1 sales fall off a cliff with all the upcoming competition (aside from Cyberteuck, the Ford T3, Silverado, eRam, and Sierra are also on the horizon, as are a bunch of SUVs).

The R2 SUV version needs to be in the $35k-$45k range, maybe less for a truck version.
I wouldn’t hold my breath for a super cheap R2T. Even if they were to make one, you can’t compare it to something like an EX30. The EX30 is well proportioned but it’s VERY small. It’s in between the size of a Bolt and a Bolt EUV. It’s also nearly three feet shorter than a Ford Maverick. The R2 is likely to be a larger vehicle than the EX30 and priced above it.

The issue for Ford is that they’re competing against themselves. One can get a comparable ICE F150 for many $10Ks cheaper. So why buy an EV version?
maybe but I would not be buying a new truck right now if I wasn't switching from my F150h to the Lightning. Getting an EV is not usually only about $$$.

About time Ford lowered the Lightning price. I've always considered it too expensive for what it is, especially compared to a R1T.

The battery isn’t the problem, the new 2023 income limit for tax credit is the real issue.

adjusted gross income (AGI) may not exceed:

  • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
  • $225,000 for heads of households
  • $150,000 for all other filers

I picked up my lightning for 86k CAD which is a little over 65% of what the r1t would cost my before taxes. I’m kinda torn now. I love the rivian. I like the lightning. ?

sometimes a truck is merely a truck. That is what I am getting a Lightning to replace my hybrid truck. My R1S is my ride; the Lightning is my beater.

I'm above those thresholds and the tax credit isn't make or break for me but for what I already pay in taxes it's a slap in the face that I can't get the credit. I don't get why the people who pay the most taxes are being cut out of the credit.
You don’t get it?

I don't get what? Are you asking whether or not I qualify for the tax credit because the answer to that is no. If you were remarking on the fact that I take issue with being denied a tax credit despite paying an extreme amount of taxes idk what to tell you.

You don’t get why you shouldn’t qualify for a tax credit? Your AGI is over $350,000. That’s an AGI, which means thar after you take all the deductions, what remains is above $350,000. You think you need a government assistance to buy a $100,000 vehicle?

I think it would be nice to keep a little bit more of my own fucking money, yeah. With what I pay in taxes I should absolutely get that little pittance back. Me keeping a little bit more of the money I EARNED is hardly government assistance.
