Safety issue: tailgate top molding fall apart too easy.

Last Friday I was busy on loading my camping gear to my T, when I open the tailgate and climb on to trunk bed, tailgate top molding fall apart suddenly, my whole body lost balance and fell down from bed, and bite my tongue out a little

Personally I think the tailgate trim piece should be a full panel running from the bottom, and up over the top. Saying that, I know better than to stand on the lip, and have always been mindful of it. It's the same with my friends F-150, pops off constantly.

Sorry to hear it, hope you feel better soon. I worry about that piece often and have considered just keeping my tailgate pad on so I don’t have to think about it as much. Others have mentioned how easily it pops off (I think it’s just plastic clips).

This would actually be a nice aftermarket opportunity. Provide a sturdier solution that includes a step, or storage, or some mounting hardware….

Yeah that's not a great place to stand. I wouldn't call that a safety issue though.

Sorry to hear you got hurt. Definitely not the easiest truck bed to get into. I usually enter from the side by stepping on the tire and swinging my leg over.

If your bed is open, use the gear tunnel door to stand on and then just step into the bed.

Yeah. Mine is falling apart too. When loading I sometimes knock it off. Generally it loses a tab or two each time which makes it fall apart more frequently which makes it lose tabs more frequently.
Mobile service is replacing it on Thursday but I have my doubts as too how long it will last.
IMHO it’s unreasonable to assume it will never get banged up when loading and unloading. Should be sturdier.

I just had my tail gate trim piece replaced today. It was easily knocked off when I was pulling something out of the bed. The soft plastic tabs that hold it in place are way too soft and were just torn off with vey little resistance. Very annoying and expensive for me to have it replace. The trim piece was free, but the time off from work cost me $200.

Mine popped off so many times that all of the tabs broke off. Just got a new one. Was hoping the new design (they have changed it) was better, but the rubber on the edge is even more prone to damage than the old soft plastic. Guessing I will have to replace it about once a year.

Our tailgate topper dislodged soon after delivery. It came off with zero abuse

Careful not to let anything touch your rear glass!

Do we have the same vehicle? I'm still baffled at the number of complaints on this. Mine is beat to hell and hasn't budged. Dragged things across it, chipped away, stood on it... She's still holding fine.

I pulled mine off once to investigate the inside of the tailgate for hanging a spare directly off the tailgate and it comes off really easily since then. The plastic holding the tabs on gets damaged from removal if you don't do it correctly, and doesn't secure very well after that.
