Hoping I can replace this part at some point because it drives me batty looking at it, but this was after hanging my dry cleaning on the hook behind the driver's seat ONCE. If you don't want scratched up fixtures, find someplace else for your dry cleaning -- but WHERE?!?! Would love your ideas because I am out of them....

After this, I tried laying my stuff flat on the back seats, but of course the second I pulled out of the parking lot my dry cleaning was on the floor... SMH...

I was afraid this would happen. I simply made a 4"to 6" loop out of 550 Paracord. I loop the Paracord over the hook and then attach the hanger to the cord. This lowers the hanger below the beauty shield. Yes some of my shirts touch the floor. Luckily my backseat is clean. You can make many designs out of Paracord if you have the time. Also the colors are endless. I leave mine attached to the hook all the time.

My solution is not owning any clothes worth dry cleaning. My Misfits T shirt is just wash and fold :CWL:
Good call! And a Misfits tee for consideration.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a clothes hook to appear undamaged through normal use

The Engineer likely focused on making certain the hook would remain strong enough to support a lot of weight without breaking, but did not take the cosmetic aspect of the the device into account. Applying a matt finish in a certain pattern could easily mitigate the appearance of minor scratches.

Everyone knows Rivian employees read the message boards and hopefully someone with take notice on this concern.

Sandy Munro's wife, in one of their videos, had a solution for this problem. As I recall, she fitted a piece of clear plastic (mylar or some other plastic) such that it was retained behind the hook, but prevented direct contact between the hangers and other surfaces.

This thread inspired me to came up with a very low cost and low tech solution. I hope it helps someone…

Materials
1. Thick fabric of your choice (I used black felt)
2. Masking tape
3. Large circular item to trace (I used a martini glass)
4. Smaller circular item to trace (I used a shot glass)
5. Pen

Process
1. Apply the tape to your fabric to cover at least as much space as your large circular item and trace with the pen.

2. Cut along the line you traced. Then center your small circular item and trace.

3. Cut along the line you traced and remove tape.

4. When needed, place over hook to protect the surround from scratching.

5. When not needed, place in seat-back pocket.

I've always used the grab handles for my dry cleaning. It's always a lot of clothes so using the hooks on the seats never crossed my mind.

I do that in other cars with plastic grab handles. With Ocean Coast I know I’d somehow get the headliner or fabric on the grab handle dirty. With my luck, probably both! :surprised:

Just tested based on earlier suggestion, and a paracord loop seems to work well for hooking larger items and keeping anything potentially scratchy away from the trim. Haven’t driven spiritedly yet, but it should be ok.

Had you seen that GIF before or is your searching skill THAT good?

I cannot unsee this and now I’m going to picture a dog’s tongue whenever I look at the seat back hangers. Even without the felt.

Seriously WTF is that dog licking? o_O
