They've said they'd repair failed tonneaus under warranty... That doesn't mean everyone gets the new design.
They said something that could be interpreted either way and it's not productive to speculate as to what they meant.

They sent all powered tonneau owners an email saying "Your tonneau cover is not up to our durability standards" and "we are working on a solution and a process for replacing existing tonneau covers."

They haven't expressly promised verbatim "We will replace tonneaus that are working perfectly fine" (which mine still is 18,000 miles later); but a C- lawyer could make a pretty strong case that they constructively commited to just that.

Still *disappointed I can't order the manual at my early pricing. I ordered my truck with a $1500 POWER cover and now they are charging MORE for a manual one. AND I can't retrofit the new power one. *Stinks.

Mine has been broken since October. Looking forward to having a working tonneau again!

I'm personally wondering if the old one will be retrofitted with the new one. And will it be at our cost or their's?
Seems likely, but if not, keep running it until it breaks? for warranty service,

It appears that the power tonneau slat design is no more? Isn’t that a continuous piece of…… something? Lol….
I enlarged it on my screen and I still see slats. I think it's just the filming angle and Instagram's crappy resolution that make it look like the slats are gone.

But, I could also be wrong! Time will tell.

Now if they offer a path towards the powered one for those of us with no Tonneaus, I'd be very interested in having that discussion...

Yes to this. I know us in the "lost power cover" days from December 2022 to late summer 2023 are told we have no path to a power cover, I still think there could be a work around. Yes we don't have the power button on the back, but we could just use the app on the phone to open and close the cover?

Heck knowing Rivian, they probably left the wiring harness behind the plastic and with a bit of parts replacing, the power button assembly could be put back in along with the new mechanism being loaded into the now empty space behind the cab. In theory, of course. There may be some very good reason why the new solution is incompatible with existing trucks but then that means everyone with a broken powered tonneau is in an even worse position than they thought.

Broken cover over here for well over 7 months.

This new powered cover looks like it might be on a roll and not a series of single interlocking panels. I'm hoping they will come to my house and replace - probably not after seeing how crazy it is to get it open.

Yeah it basically does.. you think they're going to continue producing parts and bumping labor into broken tonneaus for free? Over and over again on the same car?

I never understood why you would want a cover at all for a pickup truck. I know so many people that buy pickup trucks and they count the seconds to get a cover or cap or similar on the back. that limits what you can put in the bed. Then I see people driving down the road with giant bed covers tied half way down over something they are hauling. Seems like the worst of both worlds, but I'm not really a pickup truck guy.

Glad all the R1T people will be getting these though, it seems like the number 1 compliant on a lot of social media.
I carry gear to and from shows for my band, which equals a lot of expensive equipment, mostly with handles and wheels and the tendency to "walk away". The cover allows us to tour while keeping our equipment safe (no need to heft everything into and out of a hotel room if we can keep it locked in the truck) or even just stop for a bite to eat if we're doing a shorter, in town gig.

So, just keep opening and closing your existing automatic cover until it fails... then you get an upgraded repair!

I just took my canopy off to get a load of mulch. Sucks because it takes 2 people but I need the canopy for storage when camping. The R1T with the tonneau that is removable will work for both situations. Our family went to an open house last year to confirm that we can fit all our supplies in the R1T which we believe we can. Frunk and Gear Tunnel helps
