Yesterday I changed from the OEM 20" A/T Pirellis back to the OEM 21" A/S Pirellis after logging 5,518 miles on the A/Ts.

Tire wear was very even all around with just a little more center wear on the fronts, probably due to some unseasonably warm winter temps keeping the inflation over 48 psi quite a bit. When new, the A/Ts measured at 13/32" tread depth. After ~5,500 miles, the rears were at 11/32" and the fronts were at 10/32".

Extrapolating this wear data and assuming front-to-rear rotations every 5-6K miles, I figure that at around 20K miles the tread will be between 3/32" and 4/32", which will be time for me to replace them, probably with dedicated snow tires.

As I quipped on a different thread, I hope to offset part of that expense by not having to replace brakes. :p

I just measured my 20" ATs after ~13.5k miles. Fronts were 7-8 and rear 9-10. Looking into finally getting around to doing a rotation.

With a rotation it sounds like you will get over 20K miles out of that set of tires (but I doubt you will get to 25). Good luck!

PS - I hope that you had a decent April trout season. Too cold early and too much rain late last month up here in the northern Adirondacks. Should get a lot better now though.

Yeah, weather was terrible. I exclusively spinner fish for wild trout, and April is typically a horrible month. Until the stream temps get solidly into the 50s it isn't even worth going out. Seems like the last 2 years there have either been terrible drought conditions by the time stream temps get to where they need to be or flows good with water temps too low. Late May and early June are typically the best if temps and rains cooperate. I have learned to be very picky given how far I travel on back roads/bike/foot to get to some of the places I fish. Conditions can be like a light switch on the same stream and the difference between 5 or 10 fish and 50-100 in a day.

I have a set of very lightly used replacements from another owner due to pick up in a couple of weeks. They have ~750 miles and 0.5-1/32 wear and he offered a pretty good price well under a new set.

Good planning on the tire replacements!

I don't fish much anymore, but my late father was a connoisseur of native brookies culled from some of the smallest and most remote streams in these parts. As a 10-year-old back in the mid-60's, I had the distinction of "getting lost" overnight in the Adirondacks with my father and uncle as we fished a small stream after dinner one summer evening. We weren't really lost; it's just that we "took a short-cut" and ended up several miles further in than they had planned when darkness fell. After we broke into a deer-hunting camp in which to sleep a few hours, my father stated: "I know this camp - we can't be this far north of the car." But we were. When we "were found" the next morning 1/2 mile from the car after hiking (and fishing) downstream for 4-5 hours, there were over 100 volunteer searchers, bloodhounds, and something I had never seen before - a coffee truck! Quite the adventure, but something I will always remember fondly about my Dad.

PS - As a Navy vet, you will appreciate that the uncle with us was a young Green Beret getting ready to deploy to 'Nam. I don't think he ever stopped hearing about his exemplary navigation skills.

Thanks for sharing such a great story. Stirs up good memories of trout fishing with my dad and grandfather.
