I thought they were pretty clear that the S wasn’t getting max pack ever way back when we placed our LE R1S orders.
Nope. The early messaging was that you could could get a. battery with 400+ miles of range, but only with the 5 seat configuration.

Later they said that the Max Pack -would- be available with the seven seat configuration.

Even later they took the 5 seat configuration off the table.

I was specifically talking about November 2020 when LE orders opened up, which is when people had to decide to order an LE R1S or not. At that time, the R1T had a (non-LE) max pack option. The R1S only had one battery pack, and no max pack was promised at that time.

Instead, Rivian CS said:
"The R1S will initially be available with our Large Pack, 300+ mile range. While there are plans to offer future R1S battery packs, there is no set production date or cost. If you like, you may keep the preorder and wait for future R1S announcements. This will allow earlier access to any future models."

If you decided to pass on an LE R1S based on Rivian's November 2020 guidance about other batteries, it should've been clear that you were in for a long wait with no guarantees about what, if anything, would be available.

I got R1S Shop yesterday, LE 2019 preorder in Bay area, was Jan/Feb estimate. Snagged the LG BM 22" bright. VIN xzz2663, 2022 model year. Didn't want to take my chances on the Jan refresh next week.
Bizarre that you didn't already have your vehicle (or a VIN) with a 2019 order date and BM interior.

Remember every Rivian statement is basically just a guess.....nothing more

Wrong. All of us still waiting have the Rivian blues. Add in your dog running away with Alexa and you have yourself a country song.
Throw in some moonshine and you got yourself a hit!?

I also have a 2019 preorder with Black Mountain, haven't touched my configuration in more than a year, live less than 5 miles (in a straight line, 11 minutes in traffic) from a service center, and don't even have a delivery window. Just "processing estimate."

I don't think there are a lot of us left, but most of the 2019 preorders still hanging out there are not near a service center.

That is so odd (well, less odd if you’ve been following Rivian for a while). Do you have a guide? I’d be escalating the hell out of that given that my guide told me that the only reason I don’t have my R1S yet is the FE interior.

I disagree with this. Rivian said at that time there would be a "longer range R1S after launch".
That certainly stated that something above the current large pack would be available, and is what led to people like myself and others deciding to pass on the LE with its measly 316 mile range....which I would be more than happy with now.

Oh yes, I've worn them out. Especially since the email I got on 10/28 cancelled may "first half of 2023" delivery window and replaced it with "We'll let you know when we have plans for a service center in your area."

I talked to people at CS who agreed it seemed to be a mistake and promised to get back to me (one promised by "the end of the day" but never did). The only reply I ever got was, we'll give you an update in January.

I even drove over to the service center and talked to someone there, who suggested I just keep calling and emailing until I shake something loose. Most of the trucks there at the service center were delivered more than 200 miles away, which means they had been flatbedded 200 miles for service, but they can't give me a window because "there's not a service center in my area."

I did get a guide with the bunch of "confirm your configuration" emails that went out a couple of weeks ago, and he did respond after a few days. No real information though, just "they'll update you and everybody else by the end of January"

I am -profoundly- unimpressed with Rivian's communication skills. I took a chance with a fairly low VIN Tesla Model S, and the experience was vastly different. There were no level 3 chargers of any type within the car's range when I took delivery, and no local service center. Tesla was responsive and thorough with customer service, and in spite of the griping I see on the Tesla forums I remain impressed with Tesla's customer service.

I'm still driving the Model S. It drives as well as it did when it was delivered 8 years ago, and I was able to update the screens and computer to current spec a few years ago for $1500 which I think was very reasonable. My last (free) OTA software update was yesterday, and was seamless like all the others. The OG cars like mine, which were delivered before the supercharger network was built out, have lifetime free unlimited supercharging and "premium connectivity."

Every CS gives u a different answer. Even different guide would give you a diff answer s well. The one I spoke to said that the max pack r1s will be available fall of 2020.

Yeah, I think I messed up Sept refresh by adding XPEL and underbody, thinking that by upping the total $$ they might prioritize it. I think it went exactly opposite. Underbody seems commonly available from Shop. But XPEL probably pushed me out, though of course they wouldn't tell me. Anyway, tired of waiting.

When did they tell you that?

Fall of 2020 (specifically, November) is when we were first able to configure and order our cars for delivery in the future. Why you’d have been relying on a years-old statement then, instead of Rivian’s then-current guidance, is beyond me.

And regardless of what a random CS agent might have said, that fact that in November 2020 the R1T had an official max pack plan, and the R1S didn’t, should’ve been a clue not to wait for a max pack R1S if time was at all important.
