Wow!!!

Congrats on the huge savings and upcoming super fast delivery :D

Tesla is gonna rip on sales now....
Thanks! I picked from existing inventory actually, new orders are cutting it close in terms of delivery before March. Honestly a good 5 or so local with my exact specs I wanted just waiting on the lot, 30 or so If I was open to more colors etc.

An important word in my question was need. I’m not saying that people are rational with their wants, but how many buyers who NEED a truck or SUV are cross-shopping sedans?
Ya you were questioning the comment that rivian preorders would “jump ship” and my point is that 80% rivian truck preorders are likely cross shopping a EV sedan.

Purchased my wife's MYP at $70,000 in September... ouch! I'm glad to see Tesla prices finally come back down to normal, but I'm not sure why they didn't drop in smaller increments. I suspect the MY and Model 3s will fly off Tesla's lots now.
Most likely because that would cause demand to stall waiting for the next decrease. Plus, they wanted the Y to qualify for the tax credit. They finished the year with 50k (I think) cars in inventory, so clearly demand had dropped a lot.

They are about to destroy the EV competition.

Teslas margins were over $30k per vehicle. Not surprising look at their interiors. Even with these cuts they are ahead of every ICE automaker margins and way ahead of BEV manufacturing in the US. Not too worried about their margins if they can keep sales up overall profit will still grow, but to be seen of course.
This article says $9500 per vehicle.

Keep in mind ICE automakers still make money on other vehicles and can temporarily lose money on EVs. Tesla doesn't have that luxury.

Can't tell if you are serious. These cuts will destroy Tesla's margins and stock.

Let's assume Tesla currently makes $20k in profit per Model 3/Y and sells 1M units per year. Based on the $13k price cut, they would need to sell 2.85M units per year to make the same margin dollars. This is absolutely horrible for a for profit business. Their EPS will absolutely be crushed.
Tesla stock has been insane for a couple years. It was just as insane as Rivian being worth $120B.

Hopefully at some point, TSLA is valued at a reasonable level. That would tell me the EV mania era is done for good.

I can tell you from being in the automotive business, RivIan used prices have tanked over the past few months on both R1T and S. R1T’s going for upper $80k range with very low miles vs $100k plus 3-6 months ago. R1S down to low $100k now from $125k range.

Tesla’s prices dropped to fall within the range for the tax credit. I don’t see them going much lower or back up much higher. They are going for volume now to make up their losses in gross profit per car. Here in Florida, you can basically get any trim today if you wanted to. They are sitting in Tampa/Miami.

And to think just 6 months ago I could have sold my M3 for more than I paid for it….

Luckily I bought mine 2 years ago and only have $49k into it brand new I should be fine. The MY owners really get screwed. With the tax credit the next few months, one might pay $20k less than yesterday! Wow
Yep. That would be me. Was hoping to offset a good portion of my R1T purchase by trading my 2020 MY and getting the tax credit. Looking like neither of those things are going to net me much at this point. What a difference 6 months can make.

At this point, we may just hold on to the Tesla for my wife since we were looking at purchasing another car anyway now that our daughter is driving (she'll be getting the old VW wagon :D).

I'm still going to take delivery of my R1T but I'm considering holding onto the Tesla until after March when the credit goes away to resell....the problem is anything could happen so I'll probably just offload it if I can. I also still FULLY plan on taking the tax credit from Rivian with my binding purchase agreement unless I see any specific reason not to otherwise.

I guess my perspective is different because I prefer driving a sedan but need an SUV. We go off-roading a LOT, we often take 3 or 4 friends on our off-road adventures, we own parcels of land which we could not reach in a sedan, we have a lot of visitors, we work on a lot of projects which require moving bulky cargo., and we have a travel trailer which we occasionally move short distances. The LR3 we’ve owned the last 9 years has met our needs very well, and the R1S should be better than the LR3 in most ways. A Tesla won’t do what we need.
Not accusing you of anything but your pass times kinda sound like the daily life of a drug runner.

“Me and 3-4 heavily armed dudes go out “off-roading” to hard to reach land parcels to pick up air dropped drugs and transport them to customers. Sometimes customers come to us, so we get lots of visitors. If it’s a really big load we use a travel trailer, but only short distances to avoid law enforcement. “

Sorry about my imagination.

VinFast.. Ouch! Ouch!!
Vinfast seems to have no one to blame but themselves, but this will not help. Only the VF9 stands any chance, because of the 3 rows.

Who knew that people eager to suck up to Elon would only cost $10k?
