Max charge is less than 314?

I have my R1T with Large Pack battery for just over two weeks now and I have been charging it to 70% every day. Yesterday, I wanted to take a longer trip and I decided to charge it to 100% to ensure it'll get me there and back. But once it hit 100% (using my home Level2 charger), the range shown was 274 miles and not the 314 it is advertised. Is this normal and if it is, does anyone know why?

From your profile it looks like you have 20” AT tires. The revised range for those tires is 289. However, that range is dependent on drive mode, your driving and temperature. You’ll loose range in colder weather.

The vehicle will actually learn from your driving, so that factors in as well. You‘ll also notice your range change when you change drive modes.

I charged mine to 100% yesterday and saw 274 miles as well, it’s good to see that range is better in warmer weather living in Texas. My Rivian charger had defaulted to 85% which is around 240 miles with the ATs and all-purpose mode. I’ve read that people recommend keeping the batteries between 20-80%, should I lower the default? Only had mine a week ?

Yes the 20” ATs take of 15% or so in range which gets you to around 270 from 314.

For what it’s worth as you drive that range should creep up a bit, since the last software update mine has been slowly increasing from 270ish and now is about 277. I expect it will level off in the low 280’s.

If you don't need the extra range Rivian recommends setting it to a 70% SOC.

What does your typical commute look like?

Both high and low states of charge degrade the battery more than chilling out at 50%. So the ideal charge would be 50% plus half of your expected daily consumption.

If you normally use 20% each day, the best thing for the battery would be to charge to 50+(20/2) = 60%. Rivian does't let you pick just any number you want, so you would pick whatever option was closest.

You shouldn't hesitate to use higher charges on days when you plan to drive more than that. But if you are only planning to drive 10 mile each day, charging to 85% or 100% every day is just adding wear to the battery without providing you any benefit.

Presuming it has a trip computer, does your gas car show the same distance to empty regardless of conditions?

270s is All purpose range on the 20s. Conserve is in the 290s. This is all before the recent update. Since the update my car is ‘learning’ and adjusting my range up I assume to eventually reach near the recently updated EPA numbers.

Rivian does't let you pick just any number you want, so you would pick whatever option was closest.

Does editing the bar in the app not change this? That’s how I went from 85% to 100%.

I run 20 AT's as well and your range is normal... there are a lot of factors that determine range but if you drive your truck like a truck (basically all purpose standard height) then the range you mention is normal. On a side note I live in some cold weather and I have actually noticed when I drive down the mountain into warmer weather that I literally gain a couple miles of range as the truck warms up.
