SnazzyLabs channeling the same vibe as Doug Demuro:

of note, it’s the first video I’ve seen of the small spare inflated & on a wheel of the R1S, made it clear to me I’d want to mount a swing-out full-size spare on the tailgate.

Seemed like a fair review pros and cons. Overall seems like they agreed with Doug Demuros take that its one of the best vehicles on the road period. It was nice to see the review from a R1T owner.

I agree about the desire/need for a full size spare. But I would hate having to swing it out every time I wanted to access the back door.

Agree with you. at almost 100lbs I can’t imagine a good solution. Roof mounting is not an option if you are solo. Heck, even hitch mounted is a no go unless you are very strong and can handle the wheel solo (they are gigantic). Maybe a ramp system that goes to a hitch carrier?

Has Rivian said anything about this? It's weird. For a vehicle that's overwhelmingly marketed as an "adventure vehicle," how can they not have an option for when a R1S gets a flat adventuring off road? The little donut spare doesn't seem like a reasonable alternative to a full size spare for people going off road.

I noticed in the Rebelle Rally photos they posed with the R1S, the spare is simply strapped down in the cargo area with the back seats folded down. It eats up most of the storage. Is that really the best they can do? With the indefinite delay of the camp kitchen, powered tonneau, and likely the max pack too, there's not much reason for me to stay with the R1T over the R1S. The lack of full size spare is almost a deal breaker though. Has anyone tried a hitch mount? Seems like a real kludgy solution.

They should borrow from jeep and use their spare system. A mount on the tailgate. Or like was suggested a swing out system. Could be mounted to the bumper like many jeep aftermarket ones.

One of the things I love most about my (non electric) SUV is how easy it is to fill the back up with groceries. That would become an annoying chore if we had to swing out the spare before we can open the back door.

I could see that. That’s just something jeep owners do for oversized tires as it’s a lot of weight on that little tailgate.

Luckily the frunk is a thing for the Rivian.
