I'm sorry disneydad, but my guess is because you didn't reach out until April (past the March 20th deadline) they probably won't give you any benefit of the doubt. It is a bit strange you didn't receive that email but have received other emails from Rivian, but they have no obligation to honor your reservation or price. They have the right to change the price and/or cancel any reservation.

It sucks, but my guess is they have been contacted by quite a few early reservation holders, who cancelled, and then wanted to "uncancel" months later. They are probably going to put you in the same bucket and not make any exceptions.

I don't have much for advice other than you can continue to call and email, but I give it a pretty low chance of success now that we are 6 months past the deadline. Unfortunately you probably need to move on and mark this as a sh!tty lesson to learn. Up to you if you should place a new order. In my mind the R1T/R1S is well worth the new price. Yes I benefitted from the original low price on our R1T, but I have a new order in for a full priced R1S. There is no alternative on the market, and probably won't be for years.

Like I said, they wont respond to my emails. When I call, I get a brand new customer service person that has no idea who I am, each time I explain my situation and provide them with my contact information, they say they cant find ANYTHING in their system that I have called or emailed about this issue. I responded to the email I posted earlier attempting to show my evidence and got nothing back. They openly admit their email system had a bug which prevented me from receiving correspondence from them, yet they wont reinstate me.
It's not a bug if it's intentional.

Short of sending and email to RJ or someone else senior explaining your issue I'm not sure there is any further escalation. Unless you happen to be popular on social media, then you could probably tag them on a post asking for a better resolution.

Wow man, that sucks. I was pissed about the price hike but knew there would be major backlash. RJ admitted his error and did the right thing. I luckily didn't cancel my order. Hope you can work it out. Totally unacceptable

BTW (and forgive me if I missed it), did Rivian return your $1000 deposit? If so, when? Once I had received that, given that I was still trying to reinstate the pre-order, I believe I would have REALLY amped up my protests. Maybe the timing of that refund can help bolster your case? Regardless, it's water under the bridge at this point. As others have recommended, seems best course now is to continue to be polite and pursue offering evidence while preparing to move on.

You might consider putting in another pre-order and deposit and just request "adjustments" to that order? Worst case, you're in line again and can always cancel later if you get no help. Right now you're not even a customer anymore...perhaps they'll be more willing to assist you when you have "skin" in the game again. Anyway, best of luck to you...

In the end, you openly admit you didn't reach out until April. Not sure what proof contradicts that admission. Even if you received every other email stating price increase, walk back (we'll reach out to reinstate in the next few days) and somehow didn't receive the "contact us by March 20th to retain pricing" email, you sat on it for too long before making moves and in the end, missed the boat.

Rivian has already told you they won't be reinstating your old pricing. Accept your part in all this, and either accept the price change and pay it when your time comes, or get something else. Beating a dead horse is just going to piss you off more and more unnecessarily.

Move on big fella.

I don't recall that they put a deadline on it, and none of the e-mails I received from Rivian state a deadline, but I also never cancelled my reservations, so I'm not sure if there are e-mails other people received about it. They DID all link back to the pre-order agreement, which has always said that the agreement doesn't lock in pricing.

They went back on their decision to increase the prices rather quickly, and if it was strictly a monetary thing, I don't know why anyone would have decided to wait until April. The amount of goodwill Rivian should have earned by deciding to have captive prices for people in the earliest reservations should have been a big enough deal for people to immediately ask to be re-instated.

Can you clarify if and when you actually canceled your order then reinstated it by actually either calling/email Rivian or clicked on the icon to reinstate it? This would stop a lot of the doubt!

100% agree. To cancel immediately on news of a price increase, then to sit on your hands when they retract it 2 days later is....

I believe the problem is he never received the email to reinstate his order, thus never clicked the link. His first contact with Rivian post cancelling his order was in April which was already past the reinstatement deadline.

So now it’s an argument of the “lost” email which is going to be very tricky to prove.

The letter stated they would be sending out emails so I waited about a month. The email isnt "lost", they openly admit they never sent it.
