For me, it was all about build quality. Tesla build quality is just not good enough. I am still a huge fan of Elon and Tesla, and will always credit them for this revolution but they need to do better in vehicle build quality.
Now software, nobody can touch them. I have been in Tesla's since 2017, so I have taken it for granted. I was pretty shocked at just how awful the Rivian software and app is, in comparison, but I do have faith it will get better.
dang, is it really that bad? All the YTs I’ve seen say it isn’t horrible. Many are Tesla owners and YTers as well.

Have never once used YouTube or Netflix in my car, but I’ll massively miss the green light BING if Rivian doesn’t come out with one!
I brought it up in a separate topic and many people thought I was from an alien planet. You can clearly tell who hasn't had the feature, ha.

I've got a lovely 2015 Model S 70D with free Supercharging but only 22,000 miles on it. I just replaced the factory tires last week. I still have a CHAdeMO adapter for my first road trip on the 101 to SF, since the early Supercharger network had many gaps. Even with today's expanded network I use Supercharging maybe one road trip per year. It turned out not to be as fun for long road trips as I had hoped, but I still made plenty of <240 mile round trips for day excursions.

Seattle is not kind to low cars like the model S. I have many locations around town programmed into the GPS auto-raise suspension feature. My own driveway is too steep to take on standard ride height without bottoming out. Potholes are everywhere. Road noise starts at 10 mph. I have rim rash on all four wheels. I can never park the nose close to a low curb.

My Tesla can't record sentry mode video. It doesn't chime at a green light. I don't have enough sensors or cameras to help with parking. People stopped gawking and waving in 2016.

Today I saw a lovely FG R1T in the parking lot of the Woodland Park Zoo. Fall is coming, and I'll get mine s00n! I'll be trading or selling the Tesla.

I love my M3P. Fit and finish is great.
I’m not sure why some people comment that Europeans would not accept the fit and finish of Teslas. First, Europeans gobble them like everyone else, second are you from Europe? I am and have had plenty of European cars even the cheap ones (they all have their fair share of issue with fit and finish, let’s even talk about all the plastics and rattles). Most people in Europe do not drive a Porsche or S-Klasse.
That being said, I’m looking forward to our R1S and it will most likely go once the CT finally becomes reality (unless we fall in love with the Rivian).

Had P100D Model X.
Wife has Perf Model Y now.
Other Tesla M3 variants.
Have Bolts, and Leafs in my fleet. Even had a CMax plug in.

Rivian is the finest EV so far. No contest. No joke. Model Y is the best Tesla car so far IMO. No contest.

But the R1T is just such a pleasure to drive.

Tesla MY(P), Rivian R1T
Model Y Performance owner late 2021 model. First Tesla, will be going to my wife when the Rivian comes in.

Should point out that I had a Lexus prior to the Tesla (with its superior build quality), build issues with the Y were initially hard to stomach. Service experience was even worse, every time it went in, the car got worse, so I gave up and did some repairs myself after watching YouTube videos. But, I think that’s made me a lot less sensitive to small build quality issues, body alignment issues etc that may likely be seen with the Rivian based on some posts and reviews. Rivians a new company I get it may happen, you can’t compare them to Lexus / Range Rover who have been around for decades making cars. On the other hand the tech and innovations are on another level, so I’m very excited.

I was definitely a Tesla fanboy, for sure. I went to a MX in 2018, we loved it so much that we decided to buy a 2019 MX for my wife. Ultimately, she felt Douchey with the wing doors so she dropped down to a MY in 2020. Poor decision. No offense to the MY, but it is nothing like the luxury and features of the X, it just isn’t. We ended up getting out of the Y after a while.

I still think the X is one of the ‘baddest’ cars on the planet, but I got a ridiculous offer for it at the beginning of this year, so I sold it while I continued my wait for the R1T (then I switched to BM and got my truck sooner). Honestly, after the past 2 months with the RIV, I don’t miss my X. Are there features i miss, absolutely, but some of them are OTA update possibilities, for example:

- proximity garage door is freaking awesome with Tesla. No buttons to push, just pull up to your driveway and ‘ding’ garage door opens for ya. I would imagine this could be a future update with RIV?
- supercharger network has already been mentioned several times.
- I was happy with the Tesla service center. But, you know what, to my surprise, when I took the RIV in for service a couple weeks ago……. my service guy from Tesla (Jacob) is now the main service advisor at Rivian ??
- this isn’t possible OTA, but the self presenting drivers door, and the fact the door would close as soon as you pushed the pedal is super cool on the X. Sounds silly, but you really become used to it. Or the fact, a touch of the button and I could open the passenger door, from the drivers seat, for my wife with her hands full. Frankly, any door could be opened by the push of the button.
- the X, especially, had a sports car feeling. The performance Y was quick AF, but almost felt dangerous. While the R1T is quicker AF, it still feels like a truck because of the taller stance. The RIV does feel plenty safe though, definelty feels much safer than the more compact Y.
- also mentioned before….. there aren’t many R1’s in my area yet. Yet. I wrap my vehicles with our company graphics, and I was drawn to the X because it turned heads to begin with. So it was logical to wrap it. Currently the same thing with the R1T; it makes people look and look again. So my RIV goes in for its full wrap just as soon as our designer can finish the artwork.
- finally, the R1T was about $40k less than my MX. So, to be fair, it may not be fair to compare the 2 ?.

I would not hesitate to grab a Rivian. Will there be some growing pains over the next 1-10 years, ABSOLUTELY. For the next couple of years, though, consider yourself a beta tester and have good attitude about being a brand ambassador for Rivian. It really is a thrilling ride, enjoy it!

New guy and Tesla owner here.

To date, Ive owned two Model 3's, a Model Y Performance, and now a Model S LR Refresh. My wife owns a Model Y LR as well. Im ready for a change and Rivian was it.

I initially ordered a R1S, on 8/31/22 but that wait would pretty much murder my brain. Id assume it to be a good way, at least a year +. So, after debating with the wife on pros and cons of going to a truck, we figure a R1T will suit our needs better.

Main points were the kids are getting older, so no need for three rows. The gear tunnel seems legit. The biggest, Ive never owned a truck. Figure if I dislike it, Ill sell it for the R1S down the road.

Hope I get a golden ticket to check out the inventory shortly. I know Im a new order, and there are tons of you ahead, but hey.... I gotta have faith! HA!

Hows everyone like their R1T's? Any Tesla converts like me?
We have owned a Model 3 since Spring of 2020 and recently put our grand down to reserve an RIT. I know it will be a bit of a wait, but am looking forward to the roomier and higher ride. I love my Tesla but miss not having a truck.

Obviously these Norwegians are something else. Also they technically aren’t European ?
They are a part of the EEA and share like 99% of the same foreign and security policies. They are about as much EU as EU can get. Closet EU even. LOL.
