I'll definitely nudge my guide that I want to do this. I can easily book a work trip to the Chicago area and drive back...would be scary as hell...

I live less than two hours away and have been asking for Factory pickup. They sent mine to the Chicago service center and didn't get to do the factory pickup.

I live in Dallas and will be doing a Factory pickup. I don't know how much of it has to do with the Dallas service center still being under construction or my Guide just tired of me. I'm going to assume the latter. Nevertheless, I had my Guide change the delivery address to the factory and will be picking it up from there and driving home.

that was my exact same scenario - but turned out to be easy peasy lemon squeezey. Hope you get to do it, as it was really a good experience.

That's our plan also. We plan to tow our Airstream travel trailer up to the Factory and get a campground in the area. We will pick up our R1T at the Factory. We will spend several days touring the area and getting used to the Rivian. We will then hook the Airstream to the Rivian and head south. I will drive the Rivian and pull the Airstream. Brian will follow along in the Silverado Duramax. This trip should be a great adventure.

My guide changed my delivery location to:

for factory pickup.

While it sounds like a good idea for Rivian to do factory pickup, they didn't have anything set up for it. I did my paperwork in the lobby, and you get the vehicle in the circle in front of the lobby that has a high volume of traffic, including shuttle buses. Not really feasible for a high volume of pickups.

The experience was great though! Sadly we didn't see RJ on the tour, but he was on site that day.

And I'm like 15 miles from the Chicago service center, so proximity to service center isn't a disqualification.

A long time ago I asked CS to make a note in my account that I would prefer factory pickup, not sure if that influenced anything.

Interesting, other people have taken delivery at their delivery centre at the plant.

I was definitely interested in doing this too. I couldn't think of a better way to get acquainted with my truck and the terrible EA charging network than to drive it home from IL. I still plan to ask about it if/ when I get a guide.

I reached out to CS over Chat and they told me that they are doing factory pickup and when I eventually get a guide, to ask them about it.

Maybe lip service at this point but I saved the chat and I told the CS rep that anything that they tell me can and will be used against them at a later time!

Does delivery address have any bearing on where the car registration is processed etc.? I guess living in IL it wouldn’t be a problem but for those in other states would this delay proper processing?

Darn - I misread another thread where someone got the option of home delivery or pickup at the Service Center...I read that too quick and thought it read at the Factory...

They should definitely have Factory pick-up as an option...think about those folks that would be posting stories along the way back to their homes...would be easy, free, social media marketing.

We live in NM but would drive to Normal ,ILL to pick up a new Rivian, in a heartbeat... We used to live in Normal, eons ago.

I would hope not. We have purchased brand new vehicles outside of Florida twice before. They gave me the MSO (manufacturers statement of origin) and we returned to Florida with the vehicle where I paid Florida sales tax and titled and registered the vehicle. In one instance I got a Michigan temporary tag to drive the vehicle back. In the other instance I brought my Florida tag with me to Louisiana and drove the vehicle back with that. In Florida tags are assigned to the owner and can be reassigned to another vehicle.

If you're registering in Florida @moosetags , be aware if you purchase in Illinois, you have to pay Illinois 6% sales tax first. I'm not sure the effect it has on Florida sales tax/registration, I was exempt. Since Washington state doesn't allow direct sales, all sales here are technically in Illinois and "delivered" to WA. But since I was registering in Florida, Illinois wanted my monies.

Next time, I'll be headed to Oregon or Montana for the R1S delivery for the purchase to take place in a sales tax exempt state.

Was offered factory pickup today. In fact, they led with that and didn't offer flat-bed, which is fine with me. I'm 150 miles south of the factory, near STL
