Woke up to go to work, and Rivian was 100% dead in my driveway. I parked it there at 80% SoC on Thursday evening, went out of town for the weekend, back yesterday, went to drive it this morning, and it's completely dead. I considered taking the truck on my trip but thank God I didn't. I'm hoping it's one of the known issues with the 12v system and easily fixable. Now I get to review the Rivian Service when they have a real problem out there.

So far, called them at 8:00am, they requested some pictures of the location of the vehicle, and I provided them via email around 8:15am. They texted almost immediately to say the pictures were received. I called back at 1:00pm since I hadn't heard anything, elected to speak to "Service" instead of "Roadside assistance", and they said "the repair plan is in the ticket" and they are "working on scheduling towing". They also asked if I needed temporary transportation, which I don't at the moment, so I declined. However, if this goes on for awhile, I'll probably take them up on it to see how that works as well.

Fingers crossed.

Disappointing for sure, and a pain.

What is you vin build?

Hopefully fixed quickly and correctly on the first visit.

If this is what they meant I may have misunderstood Rivian's term 'Adventure Vehicle'

Life is an adventure. Not all adventures are fun.

Update: At 4:50pm, Rivian reached out to schedule a mobile service appointment for this Thursday between 10am-12pm. That is about 9 hours after the initial report of the dead R1T and about three business days from incident report until Mobile Service appointment. Given that I would not have a vehicle for a few days, they asked again about a rental car and I declined again stating if it was only until this Thursday, should be fine but beyond that, we would need to talk about rental car options.

Thinking on it, one of the early annoying things about a dead Rivian versus a dead version of all the previous cars that I've owned is that you can't easily move it. I have a skinny row house and an even skinnier driveway next to the house that the Rivian is squeezed into. Any other dead car, I could pop the door and roll it forward in Neutral out of the way. Or to get it out of the driveway, get a strap on the frame, drop someone behind the wheel, and easily pull it backward out to the street. With a Rivian I have to follow some procedure that probably involves some light disassembly to even get into the thing much less get it moving in either direction.

As a result, since of course today is trash day, I get to pull all the nasty trash out of the big ass can pictured below, lift the can up over the truck, then hand carry all of it to the curb. With the amount of trash my family kicks out, waiting a week is not an option. Then repeat for recycling. Thanks 12v battery designer.

Did you try to use the jump leads to make it alive again? I'd rather spend my time trying that and failing than do what you are suggesting with the trash can.

The 12V leads are by the trailer hitch. If you or someone you know has jumper cables I would give it a try. I've had to "jump" two of my EVs in the past for dead 12V batteries.

Definitely try jumping it before doing the trash dance.

Haven't tried them yet. Will look into the process and see if it's something I'm comfortable doing without potentially creating additional damage to the vehicle or myself. How it's nosed in there, I would need to get a portable charger to do the work (I have one for jumping ICE vehicles). Just need to look at all the cautionary statements. Thank you for the suggestion. I'd rather do a lot of things besides tote around bags dripping bags of trash over my head that have been getting baked in 90 degree heat for a week.

There are leads that come out of the rear bumper area. Definitely read the manual on it.

You should be able to pull a car up right behind it and connect the jumper cables to the leads by the trailer hitch. It's no different than jumping an ICE vehicle.

Ford did it right on the Lightning. Super easy access under the frunk.

How hard is it to open the hood if the battery is dead?
