HELP: Copy of Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin

So I'm trying to take delivery of my R1T and I'm going through a local credit union and in order for them to cut me a check, they are requesting a copy (front and back) of the manufacturer's certificate of origin, but according to Rivian, they don't provide those till after delivery. So now I'm stuck because I can't take delivery without payment and can't get payment without the certificate. My guide gave me a copy of the Monroney (window sticker) and said that works, but again my credit union is demanding a copy of the original manufacturing certificate of origin...any help is welcome

FWIW any other new car i've bought I haven't received the statement/certificate of origin until delivery either.

Presumably your CU needs it to prove that it's a brand new vehicle..

@crashmtb agreed. I know I ran into this same issue with the same credit union a few years ago when I was buying my Tesla, and I can't remember how we remedied it and it's bugging me. They asked for the same thing and Tesla was in the same position.

Finance somewhere else, and refi w/ your CU - my CU (First Tech) consider any vehicle less than 1 year old as "new" so you can get favorable rates even on a refi.

Were you able to get this resolved? Or did you end up financing through someone else? I'm running into a similar issue with my credit union, they want a copy of the MSO/certificate of origin before they will cut the check.

That’s my plan. I like my credit union but I will finance with Rivian and the refinance asap with my CU. Seems easier.

Good to know, I'll ask my CU if the Monroney will work. My guide said Rivian could provide a signed Letter of Guarantee but my CU rejected that. I think if I keep pressing them, they'll eventually accept one of those.

Initially they said they couldn't even give me a picture of the check and the tracking number. So I asked them if/how they handled any Tesla loans and they were able to confirm they did pictures/tracking numbers for Teslas and could do the same for my Rivian. And from what I've seen elsewhere, Tesla also doesn't provide the Certificate of Origin until payment is received. So hopefully they can just check their Tesla process again and I can do something similar for the Rivian.

Worst case scenario I'll finance through Rivan and then refinance through my CU.

Interesting, that's good to hear. Yeah my CU asked me to clarify with Rivian that they just wanted a copy initially and I'm still waiting to hear back from my guide to see if that makes any difference.

My guide reached out to the title/registration team specifically to get the copies so you could potentially suggest that!
