Otherwise it’s a non starter for us in Canada, with transport Canada approval not having happened yet, and rivian not being on the RIV admissibility list.
It seems increasingly likely that nothing will happen here until after September.

I‘d use my mother in law’s address in the US if it would actually work. But even then, max pack isn’t much sooner.
I think it was in their previous quarters S1 filing that they mentioned they didn't expect Transport Canada approval until September/October of this year unfortunately.

Guys, I think some of you are missing the positive point here. Kyle has been a huge advocate for our community, and has definitely influenced Rivian on their development for updates, so I only see this as a positive outcome.

WHat would be a welcome simple update to their configurator/account page, would be a box you can check if you are interested in other more readily available variants. Even a sub menu within it clicking options you are not fussy on in order to take delivery.

edit: Rather than waiting on a random call asking if you are interested in being flexible.

Lets put it this way, Kyle is way more important then other pre orders to do the fact that Rivian watches is his videos and are listening to him. He will make a much more impact to the brand more then anyone online. Is it fair, no, but its business. They will benefit on this more any most orders they got.

Someone offered their early reservation to Kyle. Maybe that is how Kyle got it.

I also had a recent reservation trigger before two much older reservations. The configuration has to be just right to win the Rivian lottery. I am hopeful that the new R1 Shop will correct some of this unfairness.
that is not possible, its not allowed.

I agree, but I think we need to recognize that A) that advocation isn't done out out of the goodness of his heart. There are business reasons behind it, and B) Kyle effectively jumping the line basically bumped someone else out further.

I watch all of Kyle's content and generally enjoy what he produces, but this leaves me feeling a bit sour on a few different fronts, even as a current owner:
  • He clearly jumped the line. He admitted prior that he was not an early reservation holder. This is a Rivian thing - they either deliberately moved him up, or did so via incompetence in delivery sequencing.
  • His statement about how it's not an influencer thing comes off poorly. Thousands of people had an earlier reservation, and to spend 2 seconds on it, dismissing it offhand reeks of it being precisely this. I hope he covers it more in future video, with a bit more care.
  • I was told factory delivery was not available. For him it was. Instead, they hot-shot my truck 8 hours from Michigan and paid for the delivery man (shout out to Kevin!) to stay overnight a mile away from my house, then drive back the next day. This feels both stupid and bad.

I didn't get that cool Pelican case that contains the keys and stuff and my plastic screen protectors were already removed.

Anyone else not get the case?
I got the case (see above post) but my screen protectors were not on when I got the truck (which had I think 37 miles on it when I picked it up)

This is not a Kyle \ YouTube thing - I asked my guide if I could pick up my truck at the factory and he made it happen - and I live in Oregon.

I’m am happy for Kyle. He seems like a cool guy and I enjoy his videos.

That being said, he admitted to trying to get his truck early and Rivian said “no”.

He contacted a Guide either from someone he knows, or the Guide reached out to him.

He used either that Guide, or the new Rivian Shop, or a combination to find a truck. A truck that literally thousands of Pre-Order holders that were ahead of him may have taken.

If he did use the Rivian Shop, he probably did it before it was even announced, much less online and active, again jumping ahead of thousands of pre-order holders.
Finally, he got the cool Pelican Cases that everyone was supposed to get, but many have not.

Does this really sour me on Rivian or Kyle? Not really. It is what it is, and I am excited to see what he does with the truck, but it was purchased in less than an above deck situation.

Hopefully “carma” doesn't come back and bite him in the ass.

The part I am confused on is did he get a normal guide contact or did someone know him and got him a guide assigned. If it's the latter then 100% it's because of who he is, and is representative of the fatal flaw in this whole system:

Many people who ordered early would have taken that truck, but they don't have anyone who's going to get them a guide assigned (or they're not getting one assigned via whatever the process is that Rivian is using).

But, on the flip side, as others have said: This makes business sense for Rivian

In the end someone just owning exactly what happened and why is all most of us are asking for.

The video was a little long winded, but congrats to Kyle. I look forward towards the shenanigans you'll be pulling off in that truck @OutofSpecKyle (Jump test!! :) )?

... but if he ordered just a few weeks/months ago then this is again another example of unfairness.
This isn't his ideal order though. I'd be hella pissed if this was the spec he ordered, that would be unfair, but Rivian giving him a off-shoot version and Kyle not being concerned about it? Doesn't phase me at all.

Frustrated reservation holders: "Where the heck is our Rivian?!"
Rivian: "Still being built and QC'd. We're sorry for the wait. However, if you don't mind getting this jabrony-spec'd R1T that isn't configured to your specifications, you're welcomed to it in 2 weeks ..."
