It's not just configuration, but delivery location. I'm sure there's a lot of other logistics at play, as well.
Good point, I had ignored delivery location.

I got an email that said they will contact me late May. So, they are inept at sending notices, or inept at knowing their own assembly line. Either way, they need to hire people who have business knowledge. I've given them a year of slack, why do they deserve more?
That was a standard email sent to everyone. It wasn’t personalized for you.

I also wonder what other options will affect delivery. Wheels are obviously one, what about tonneau covers?
I would think if they are trying to optimize production by batching, then they're going to produce the power tonneau first since all LEs ship with it.

But, what the heck do I know . . . . I'm certainly not a production planning expert, even if I play on on Internet forums.

“We ask those preorder holders with a 2023 (or later) delivery window to sit tight for now but know that we intend to provide you with more clarity this summer as well.”

So, who will get more details first — OC orders or 2023+ windows? I’m guessing more like Nov/Dec either way ?

Sure feels that way. Had a call with my guide earlier today (confirmed Ocean Coast interior on my Launch Edition R1T), told me my vehicle would be delivered end of May. Fast forward 5 hours later.... I read the email, check in with my guide and they confirmed that if I stick with my order I won't receive it until Fall.
This is really bad customer service!

Rivian should have known better that sending the same letter to people who already have guides and PBAs as those whose deliveries are still months or a year out would cause confusion. Unfortunately there is precedent for waiting until the end of delivery windows to acknowledge a delay, so perhaps this was intentional.

At least they aren't as bad as Ford. They've sent delay emails multiple times to people who's trucks aren't delayed, and people who haven't even been able to order a Lightning yet. They've also sent emails about charging your Lightning and other things meant for people with orders, but sent to everyone with a reservation.

I wonder if underbody shield helps adventure orders sneak into batches with LE. Do all LE’s come with it? I can’t keep up with everything… :)

There have been LEs delivered without it.

I don’t think the email tells us anything we did not already know. Our position in line is and has been dynamic and will change as folks change their configuration to match what is available to get their R1s sooner.

If Rivian follows through we should know in a few weeks what our new delivery window is.

Rivian is just trying to maximize production while managing the parts supply issue.

I agree with everyone who has said it before. Rivian's customer communication is very poor. On Friday, I asked if color or wheel choice will affect delivery timing and they said, "No!" One business day later, they contradict themselves with this email.

Most business' customer service is severely lacking (e.g., cable companies, wireless phone companies), but I would hope that a company that is starting with a "clean sheet" could do better. I guess not. ?

After following the advice here and the fact that my husband and I are expanding our family(currently one toddler another on the way), we thought it was best we get black mountain interior instead of ocean coast. I hope switching will move us up in que.

From the beginning of all this I have professed that the delivery schedule should ONLY be based on your order date…period. Just not fair but they have not asked my opinion. Why should someone that orders one year after someone else, get their vehicle sooner? Should you be able to board an airplane flight earlier because you wore black pants that day? Frustrated in Hermosa Beach. JB
I think your analogy is off a bit. It’s more like if you went to the ice cream shop and asked for vanilla in a waffle cone. They tell you they are making more vanilla, but are out for now, would you like to switch to chocolate and have your ice cream now, or wait on the vanilla? If you choose to wait for vanilla, does that mean every customer behind you has to wait to get their ice cream until you get yours?

Just take the chocolate, wait or leave, but don’t be the whiny 5 year old that is shouting and stomping around the ice cream shop saying it’s “just not fair” that you had to change your order or wait longer than someone that just came in wanting chocolate.
