Dallas First Mile Test Drives Now Booking Appointments

Sadly I still don't have any notice of this event in my account nor have I received any email yet. Wonder if they will skip over me since my preorder is for R1S? I'll definitely be checking my account more frequently now.

Yes, I've confirmed with CS that these initial invites are only going to Launch Edition holders, regardless of preorder date.

LE here and got my invite but, when I logged in this morning to register, the event already showed full. Very disappointed that they have so few slots even for LE reservations that they fill up in under 24 hours.
I guess that allows Rivian to say they’ve offered test drives to their launch reservations… and it’s just my fault that I had gone 18 hours without logging in.

I contacted CS yesterday about trying to get in for drive. I figure this is my last chance to drive one before my April/May delivery window. CS said that they would ask around and get back to me. Seeing that they seem to be full now I won't be holding my breath!

They could have met in the middle between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio and done a First Mile Event at COTA... That would be epic.... They would have gotten all of us there.

I attended a First Mile in north LA and near Sonoma. Incredible! Their camp kitchen popcorn is next level.

Just got my Dallas First Mile invite today for 4/27. Glad to see they are still rolling out.

For reference - I reserved in early July 2021, R1T Adventure Package, anticipated delivery Oct-Dec 2022.

I'm assuming they are only using one vehicle for these, but I could be wrong.

I had the first drive-in in Dallas on Tuesday morning. They told me during the drive that this was the very first in Texas as far as First Mile drives, and that it would be a regular thing going forward. First, they were doing it with LE holders that were nearest the Dallas SC, and then it would loosen up.

They also told me that the SC in Houston is opening soon and that deliveries for Houston would then come from that location rather than Dallas, as they are now. Currently, Dallas is the staging area for deliveries to all of Texas. Going forward, Dallas will still handle Dallas + Austin + San Antonio until Austin SC comes on line.

The current Dallas SC is temporary, as the permanent one is held up in permitting issues, but they expect movement soon there too.

They came to my house in Richardson today for my First Drive.

The car was great as expected. A few highlights for me personally: 1) Sport was too stiff for my liking and I could feel everything in the roads. All purpose is great. 2) In all purpose mode, it was taller than expected. Will want some running boards when available. 3) I drove a LG w/ black 20s. I normally like black rims, but just don't like them up against the grey plastic which wraps around the car. I would recommend sticking with the regular 20 ATs.

Great info, thanks! Sounds like this will be a semi-permanent thing with First Mile drives in the Dallas area, which is way better than bringing a truck for a few weeks and then moving on.

Had my first mile test drive today, and wow these things are indeed quite quick lmao. It “felt” considerably faster than my Model Y Performance. I found the sound of the motors while driving to be super cool, and spaceship-like. Sound system seemed to be very solid. Probably a bit better than my experience in Teslas so far (which I find to be very good). To me, there’s a very respectable amount of storage space throughout the vehicle, considering the bed robs some potential space that you’d get in say an R1S, or an SUV of a similar size. The UI was super snappy as most others have mentioned recently, although yeah the camera quality is a little “meh”. The birds eye view was nice to have though! Overall, I had a great experience, although no new info regarding my timeline/build unfortunately. Now I just need July-Sep to hurry up and get here!

(Also, all the little specks in the images are rain drops. The sun just started peeking out for my test drive time )
